NBA Trade Rumors: Houston Rockets, LA Lakers Want Ty Lawson Trade From Denver Nuggets
NBA trade rumors involve Ty Lawson again. The Houston Rockets and LA Lakers would like a trade with the Denver Nuggets if it means acquiring Lawson at a discount. A report from NBC Sports on Friday (July 17) even has the Detroit Pistons interested in trading for a guard who may become a real bargain. It has been a rough NBA offseason for Lawson, and the Nuggets may just want to shed his salary for very little in return.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Lawson just got arrested for his second DUI this year. While that has certainly damaged his value on the trade market, it hasn’t evaporated the interest of several teams. The chance to take him on at a limited cost has actually created more interest from the Lakers, Rockets, and Pistons. While fans of those teams may want the franchises to avoid a problematic player like this, there is no doubting that he might be an asset for the 2015-16 NBA season.
There are still two years left on the contract for Ty Lawson, with the guard due $12.4 million next season and then about $13.2 million for the 2016-17 NBA season. Lawson has been at the center of many NBA trade rumors this offseason as the Denver Nuggets look to move in a different direction. At first, it appeared that he could garner several young players in return, but now the team may be ready to just dump him. If the Lakers, Rockets, or Pistons offer a deal where they take on his full salary, the Nuggets may trade him immediately.
Lawson is coming off a season where he played 75 games for the Nuggets, averaging 15.2 points, 9.6 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game. Those are magic numbers in fantasy basketball and also something that could translate very well to another contending team. The risk is that he brings a lot of baggage, which now includes off-the-court troubles that might eventually catch up with him. Nothing is free in the NBA, so his suitors will have to weigh that against how he does on the court.
It’s very clear by the most recent NBA trade rumors that the Denver Nuggets have drawn really close to simply giving up on Ty Lawson. That could turn out to be a huge benefit to one of the team still showing interest, especially if the trade package only involves giving up a future pick and paying the salary of Lawson.
