Katy Perry Thanks Left Shark For Emmy Nod: ‘V Proud Of Everyone Involved Especially #Leftshark’ [Video]
Katy Perry might win an Emmy, and it’s partly because of the dancer known as “Left Shark.” Perry awoke to the news Thursday that her half-time performance at the Super Bowl XLIX was nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program category, reports Time magazine.
Katy Perry’s action-packed and visually stunning concert had positive reviews, but it was Left Shark that stole the show, causing Katy’s performance to go viral with the popular hashtag “#leftshark.”

Viewers went crazy over Left Shark’s random moves, prompting Katy Perry fans to ask, “Today, look yourself in the mirror and ask yourself, ‘Am I #LeftShark or #RightShark?'” while reporters scrambled to snag the first interview with the unknown dancer.

Even though it seems Left Shark was out of sync, R.J. Durell, choreographer to Katy Perry, said Left Shark “nailed” the halftime performance, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“The sharks were given two main objectives,” Katy’s choreographer told the Hollywood Reporter. “One, perform Katy’s trademark moves to the ‘Teenage Dream’ chorus, which they both did perfectly; and two, to have loads of fun, and bring to life these characters in a cartoon manner, giving them a Tweedledee/Tweedledum-type persona.”
The choreographer continued, “Clearly, that was portrayed with the overzealous shark on the right hitting precise dance moves, while the left shark was playing up the more goofy, fun-spirited sports-fan mascot type, who was just happy to be at the Super Bowl.”
Katy Perry publicly thanked everyone involved with the performance, calling out her fishy backup dancer in particular.

An Emmy nod isn’t the only thing Perry has to be excited about. Katy Perry was also named the new face of H&M’s Christmas collection, according to the Daily Mail, following in the famous footsteps of Beyonce and Lady Gaga. Perry released a statement confirming her involvement.
“I am excited to announce that I will be starring in H&M’s #HappyandMerry Holiday Campaign launching later this year. H&M was one of the places where I first began cultivating my personal style. I can’t wait for you to see the world we created.”
The clothing store added, “We are so thrilled that Katy Perry will star in our campaign this holiday season. We love everything about Katy, from her incredible talent and energy to her playful sense of personal style.”
But will Left Shark also be in the campaign?
