It’s been previously reported that Zayn Malik was dropped by Simon Cowell’s label, Syco , and has moved to another Sony label.
Now it looks like those reports aren’t true. Malik hasn’t been dropped by Syco, according to reps affiliated with Cowell. Rumors swirled that Malik was dropped by the music label shared with his former One Direction band mates. According to Syco, Malik is still with the music label.
A Syco representative spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the rumors, stating, “Zayn is still with Syco.”
That same spokesperson has also confirmed this same information to Digital Spy . There is no truth in the report in the Sun , which claims that Zayn would move to another label under the Sony umbrella as he begins his solo music career.
The British tabloid claimed that Cowell released Malik from the label “out of loyalty” to the remaining four members of 1D. The inside source claimed that Cowell knew his decision to kick Malik to the curb was costly.
“It’s a big move for Simon because Zayn could have a very successful solo career but his priority absolutely remains the band and this is a big statement on his part.”
Alleged insiders with Syco confirmed to the Sun that Malik would move to another label within the Sony brand as he scrambles for a new producer. The reason was so Malik and One Direction would no longer remain on the same label.
“Simon has set up a deal that suit Zayn and One Direction. Zayn will stay in the Sony family under a different label and it’s totally with Simon Cowell’s blessing.
“It was just felt to be a bit difficult to have 1D and Zayn on the same label — and everyone felt it was better for him to be somewhere different. Since leaving the band, Zayn has changed management and lawyers so it would kind of make sense for him to work with a new label team.”
The insiders assured that Malik doesn’t have any bad blood with Cowell and is signed to Syco until things are final.
“But having said that, he still gets on great with Simon. And his girlfriend PERRIE EDWARDS is having huge success with LITTLE MIX with Syco. And, at the moment, while things are being finalised, Zayn is still signed to Syco.”
There have been a lot of rumors about Malik’s music career since he left One Direction in March. Rapper Mic Righteous previously remarked that Malik is banned from releasing any solo music for two years. Meanwhile, the singer has had a falling out with Naughty Boy after the music producer allegedly leaked Malik’s music video.
Zayn was spotted with the producer earlier this year. Rumors swirled that he was working on his secret solo project. Zayn recently dissed Naughty Boy on Twitter when a clip from his music video for “No Type” leaked onto Snapchat.
It’s also been reported that Malik is considering a future in fashion. Not only does he want to release a solo album, but he also wants to launch his own clothing line. Malik has been recently seen in the front row of Paris Fashion Week, where he debuted his new platinum blonde hair.
