Denise Huskins, Aaron Quinn: ABC 20/20 Updates California ‘Gone Girl’ Kidnapping Case Tonight

“Gone Girl Kidnapping” victims Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn will be the subject of an all-new ABC 20/20 report tonight. Denise Huskins and her boyfriend, Aaron Quinn, were kidnapped by 38-year old Matthew Muller, a former Harvard student and Marine in California earlier this year. The case gained nationwide attention after it was believed that the entire abduction was a hoax. The bizarre abduction was dubbed the “Gone Girl Kidnapping” case.

Tonight’s ABC 20/20 will speak with Aaron Quinn’s mother who believes that the Vallejo Police Department wrongly accused the couple of fabricating the entire kidnapping.

Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn were in bed asleep when they were awakened by a strange man. The man grabbed Aaron Quinn, tied up his hands with zip ties and shoved him in a closet while blindfolded, then was given NyQuil and drugs to make him fall asleep. When he awoke, he found himself bound, and discovered his girlfriend, Denise Huskins, missing.

The perpetrator also stole Aaron Quinn’s laptop computer and a vehicle. 29-year old Denise Huskins was found over 400 miles away in Huntington Beach, a location near her mother’s home. Police automatically assumed that the abduction was staged. Even Nancy Grace believed in the beginning that the case had all the characteristics of a hoax.

The case took a shocking turn after court documents indicated that a similar home invasion had taken place. That home invasion investigation traced back to Matthew Muller, according to a former report by ABC News. After digging deeper into his background, investigators found that Matthew Muller had attended Harvard University, where he studied law. Now, Muller’s attorney says that his client suffers from bipolar disorder, which could mean they are preparing for an insanity defense.

Despite the evidence, the police department has not issued a formal apology, and those who had followed the case say that in their minds it all still sounds like a hoax. Here are some of the social media comments regarding the case.
