Nicolle Wallace’s ‘View’ Days Reportedly Over: Co-Host Cut From Regular Gig, Sources Indicate
Rumors had been swirling that another cut was coming for The View co-host slate, and now it’s reportedly been confirmed that Nicolle Wallace’s View days are over. Buzz started circulating back in January that both Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace would be leaving the show after only one season, but at the time, the show denied this was the case. Now, however, it appears that this is exactly the case.
Just a week after it was revealed that Rosie Perez was indeed out, the show has announced that Nicolle Wallace’s View gig is over as well, at least in terms of being a permanent co-host. Variety details that Nicolle has been offered an opportunity to stay involved with the show as a contributor, but that her daily gig has ended.
At this point, the show itself has yet to confirm Nicolle Wallace’s View departure, and it seems that the conservative personality is still considering the contributor offer. Sources indicate that she’s hurt by the decision to not bring her back as a regular co-host.
Many would imagine that Wallace may find that she has other television opportunities available to her in the coming year, as the 2016 presidential election battle heats up. Nicolle is the former communications chief for George W. Bush, and she was a senior advisor for the campaign that John McCain and Sarah Palin ran in the 2008 presidential election.
Why is the show reportedly cutting Wallace? As Deadline shares, insiders claim that Nicolle’s lack of pop culture and celebrity knowledge played a large role. In addition, word is that the show wanted her to express more dissent when it came to political discussions. As many have seen, Nicolle tended to handle controversial and political discussions with a bit more caution than some other conservatives have on the show in the past.
The show has added Michelle Collins to the co-host panel to take over Rosie Perez’s role, and Raven-Symone was recently added after Rosie O’Donnell bailed in the midst of this season. Who will the show bring in, given Nicolle Wallace’s View departure?
The buzz at this point is that there will be rotating guest co-hosts that may include Wallace, along with possibly bringing back former co-host Sherri Shepherd for some appearances. There are other names in the mix, as well, including Molly Sims and Stacy London, and few would be surprised to see Candace Cameron-Bure pop up again, as well.
Ratings for this season have been down, and the show has struggled to find a slate of co-hosts that can spark a boost for the show. Will Nicolle Wallace’s View departure on the heels of Perez’s exit pave the way to a co-host panel that works again? Fans will have to stay tuned to find out.
