Detroit Tigers Trade Rumors include some big names. The Tigers could trade David Price and Yoenis Cespedes before the 2015 MLB trade deadline on July 31. It all comes down to how the team performs in the next two weeks. A report from MLB.com late Wednesday (July 15) talks about the obvious fact that the Tigers have underperformed this season. It could lead to some big roster changes rather than the front office taking on the risk of losing free agents for no compensation.
Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski spoke at length about it as well.
“It happens every year. But the reality is, between now and July 31, if you win 10 or 11 games or you lose 10 or 11 games, well that can change the way you are a great deal. If you keep playing the way you’ve been playing, I don’t see where it changes. But nobody can foresee the future. But are there things that happen? Sure. Anything can happen. But I think it’s more predicated upon unusual circumstances. So for me, I think we just continue the way we are. We try to get better. We’re going to have to play better at times. We’re just going to have to.”
These Detroit Tigers trade rumors don’t come just from the.500 record the team has posted through the All-Star break, but also from Yoenis Cespedes and David Price becoming free agents at the end of the MLB regular season. With Cespedes, the team won’t get any draft compensation if he leaves in free agency, meaning the team can either trade him soon or possibly lose him for nothing. Price would get the team draft compensation, but he is likely to sign with another team as the highest paid free agent in the next offseason.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr , Cespedes signed a four-year, $36 million deal with the Oakland Athletics as an international free agent. The team then traded him to the Boston Red Sox, and the Red Sox sent him over to the Tigers. He has been really good at the plate for the Tigers, which might cause the front office to offer him a big contract extension, but he will also be a very expensive free agent. Moving forward, the team needs him to succeed this season, but is he enough with Miguel Cabrera now sidelined?
There are going to be a lot of additional Detroit Tigers trade rumors in the coming few weeks, but the reality is that it all comes down to a few simple facts. Dave Dombrowski likely won’t trade his two All-Star players if the team goes on a winning streak, but a losing streak could lead to a lot of Tigers action as the MLB trade deadline draws near.
