Marvel’s The Avengers Breaks Records Overseas Ahead Of U.S Release
May 4 might be D-day for the superhero ensemble otherwise known as The Avengers to drop in the U.S, but the mighty six have wasted no time in slaying box office records abroad.
On the back of fantastic reviews, high profile premieres and much anticipation – in just one day – Joss Whedon’s monster romp hit pay dirt in Australia with the second highest opening of all time – actual figures, $ 6 million. Similarly in Taiwan, figures were also high – $ 1.6 million – making it the highest Wednesday opening of all time.
Due to open in the UK this Friday, with same day or next day openings to follow in 42 countries around the world, expectations for more eye-watering box office are realistically huge.
Small wonder, then, that other studios want a piece of the action. Not only will Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Kight Rises trailer preview before The Avengers screens in theaters, Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man will also be tagging along to tantalise captive audiences.
The Avengers brings together big draw actors such as Robert Downey Jr ( Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner( Hawkeye), Chris Evans (Captain America), and Tom Hiddleston (Loki) – and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury).
After the furore of Rich Ross’s public fall from grace last week, today’s news must be sweet indeed for Disney.
