Paul Rudd’s Diet Transformed Actor: ‘Ant-Man’ Gig Showcases New Side To Fan-Favorite Star
Paul Rudd’s diet took some serious work and intense determination, but it seems the actor was ready for the challenge he faced to prepare for his role in Ant-Man. The new film hits theaters this weekend, and now the actor is opening up about how hard he worked to tackle his role in the highly-anticipated film. What was his approach?
People shares that over the course of the past year, the actor did heavy workouts and changed up his eating substantially. Paul Rudd’s diet meant no carbohydrates or alcoholic drinks for the actor throughout his training. In addition, he did workouts that were heavily focused on gymnastics.
Rudd admits that his preparation for the role with the necessary fitness and eating changes became the center of his day, a big change for him compared to other roles. He says that the regimen that he followed wasn’t something he could sustain permanently, but even now, he’s still taking care with his eating and he’s maintaining the workouts that he started during the intense period of training.
This role is a very different type of character for the typically comedic actor. Known for his roles in films such as Clueless, Knocked Up, and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, Rudd tackles the lead role of Scott Lang / Ant-Man in this new Marvel film.
As the Wrap shared as the casting was confirmed, Rudd had already been working on slimming down a bit and training hard for the new role. The character is one where Rudd’s comedic style will still come into play a bit. Paul plays a scientist whose invention gives him the ability to talk with insects and change his size, and his abilities are soon put to use in an intense way that goes far beyond anything he could have anticipated.
The new Marvel film also stars Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly from Lost, Corey Stoll from House of Cards, Judy Greer from Two and a Half Men and Californication, along with Bobby Cannavale of Nurse Jackie and Boardwalk Empire. The trailers have had fans buzzing for months now, and everybody is eagerly anticipating the weekend premiere. Given all of the superhero films out over the past few years, the expectations are high for this one, and moviegoers will be anxious to see if this one lives up to the hype.
Naturally, this film is expected to be a theater blockbuster, and it hits screens beginning on July 17. Will Paul Rudd’s diet do the trick to transform him from a traditional comedy actor to a superhero superstar?
