Will Dan Aykroyd will be in the new Ghostbusters film? Probably. And that’s all we know for now, though it’s mighty fun to speculate.
Paul Feig’s reboot of the 1980s classic is the subject of many conversations at the moment, and when Dan tweeted a cryptic message to tease eager fans on Tuesday, news outlets made sure to screenshot the tweet and blast it across the Internet for mass speculation.
Aykroyd’s message went something like this: he was on set filming with Kristin Wiig and the all-female cast, whom he called “adorable, hilarious, and bad a**.” The rest of the Ghostbusters squad also includes Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon, Entertainment Weekly — which was able to confirm Dan’s involvement — reported.
Little, of course, is known about what kind of role Aykroyd is playing in the new movie, since his reps only confirmed his involvement, and the producers are saying squat. But, apparently, he won’t be reprising his role in the original, as ghost exterminator Dr. Raymond Stantz , CNET added. The only reason news media has run with that theory is because the reboot isn’t a continuation of the original films.

A mole working inside the set of the flick has apparently let slip that Aykroyd is playing a cab driver who won’t let Wiig’s character in his cab. He also utters “I ain’t afraid of no ghosts” at some point. And that’s probably all we’ll know, Dan Aykroyd included, until it’s released next summer.
Dan’s at-least-minor role has many wondering whether the other members of the 1980s cast will appear, as well. Sigourney Weaver and Ernie Hudson have expressed interest — Hudson said he’d do whatever producers want him to if they’d like to include him.
As for Bill Murray , he’s less enthused. According to International Business Times , he has nothing but kind words for the new cast, but that’s where his interest has ended.
“(Fieg) said, ‘Maybe there’ll be something for you to do in the movie,’ And I was like, [noncommittal noise], and it hasn’t gone any further. But I think they’re going to have a great success with it. I think it’s going to be fun.”
That’s a bummer. Though, there’s this silver living: Dan Aykroyd is also pairing with a different producer to create another remake with Ivan Reitman — apparently, that film would represent an expanded universe.
Meanwhile, Ghostbusters appetites have been whetted by a new video, just released by TMZ , which depicts a day of shooting on the film set. According to the Wrap , the video features a very brave (presumably) stunt person dangling from a window, and the updated Ecto-1 station wagon.
