New ‘Twilight’ Mini Movies Premiere, Films Intrigue Fans Without Starring Robert Pattinson And Kristen Stewart, All The Details
Just when fans thought it was over, the Twilight franchise is back in the form of seven Twilight mini movies. The films, collectively titled The Storytellers: New Voices of the Twilight Saga, recently premiered during the Arclight Cinemas in Hollywood to a crowd of excited fans.
The new films were all written and directed by females, and were selected by Lionsgate, Women in Film, Facebook, Tongal, Volvo, and Stephenie Meyer in order to garner attention to the role women play in film.
Despite not starring Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, the films have been well received by fans. While the films focused on characters outside of Bella and Edward, one of the characters that featured prominently was Alice Cullen. Additionally, in keeping with the themes of the story, each film has the same feeling as the original movies, which should appeal to any Twilight fan.
The films include The Groundskeeper, by Sarah Turi Boshear and directed by Nicole Eckenroad, Sunrise, by Alanna Smith and directed by Amanda Tasse, Turncoats, by Lindsey Hancock Williamson, The Mary Alice Brandon File, by Kailey and Sam Spear, Consumed, by Cullyn Doerfler and Megan L. Reese and directed by Maja Fernqvist, We’ve Met Before, by Thea Green and directed by Yulin Kuang, and Masque, by Cate Carson.
Following the premiere of the Twilight mini movies, Meyer hosted a Q&A session, where she gave fans an opportunity to ask questions about the new materials. During the session, Meyer stated that she is glad to see the films finally out and hopes that they will help promote up-and-coming female voices in Hollywood.
“What was exciting about this project is someone was willing to put their money where their mouth was… It’s been really exciting to do something, maybe not on a huge scale, but on a small scale to get more female voices out there.”
The films were part of a competition announced last year to challenge Twilight fans to write about some of the characters in books that didn’t get a lot of attention in the movies. The seven films mentioned here are the finalists for the competition, with the winner set to receive a reward of $100,000.
With the films now out for everyone to enjoy, fans can also play a part in selecting the winner. In fact, fans can now cast their vote for their favorite short film and help decide which film should win the grand prize.
