Woman Starved To Death After Eating Nothing But Light

The new craze these days is to eat everything light. Light cream cheese, light mayo, light beer but one Swiss woman took things a little too far and after reading some books on breatharianism decided she could survive on only light. No food, no water just light.

The woman watched a controversial film that was made in 2010 called “In the beginning there was light,” Swiss media company Tages Anzeiger reported Wednesday.

In the film, Swiss Chemistry expert and doctor Michael Werner and his 83-year-old sidekick, Indian yogi Prahlad Jani, who both made the claim that they only derive sustenance from the spiritual plane and that they have no need for traditional nutrition. This is the backbone of a concept also known as breatharianism.

Werner says he has not eaten any food since 2001. Jani made the claim in the documentary that for more than 70 years not only has he gone without any food, but also without water.

The woman, who had read a book on breatharianism written by Australian breatharian Ellen Greve who goes by the name Jasmuheen, prepared for her new life of light eating by reading the book.

As encouraged by the book, the Swiss woman, who was in her early 50s, completely gave up eating and drinking for an entire week. She even went as far as to spit out her saliva. In weeks two and three she started drinking again but not eating.

When her worried children asked her to stop she told them she would if she felt bad from the diet. The children found her dead in her apartment a few weeks later.

Swiss media reported that she died of starvation, ruling out any other type of contributing factor. Four other people have died attempting to live on light alone.
