WWE News: Cody Rhodes Comments On Returning As Stardust On ‘WWE RAW’
Was it Cody Rhodes or Stardust on WWE RAW? The son of the “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes has been a fixture of WWE programming for several years now. With a multitude of charisma, which he got from his father, and great in-ring ability, the former-Intercontinental champion has utilized many characters and done very well. Rhodes is the WWE’s current product’s equivalent to Mick Foley. That’s a huge compliment.
On WWE RAW this past Monday, Stardust’s return was revealed, and he faced Neville in a singles’ match during the last hour of the program. WWE fans were wanting him to return as Cody Rhodes, to pay homage to his father’s passing. Fans also wanted him, along with the return of Cody, to turn back into a babyface.
Much to the frustration of WWE fans, neither happened. Rhodes returned as Stardust and remained a heel. Along with the groups of cheers were boos and complaints on social media. Rhodes’ wife, Eden, wrote on her blog about the disrespectful fans that were calling out Rhodes. Here’s an excerpt from her blog.
“Last night my husband returned to RAW to finish what he started and some ‘fans’ we’re peeved with him ANGRY because they wanted something else. They wanted him to use what happened to his father as a ‘stepping stone’. Not for Cody, but for themselves. Maybe that’s to feel better about everything or maybe they are just that selfish. But to publicly crap on the most courageous thing someone in this position could do which was pick up and carry on and do it brilliantly, shame on you.”
That portion of Eden Rhodes’ blog put it all into perspective. Rhodes doesn’t seem like the person to quit on anything. If at all, he got that from his father, Dusty Rhodes. It wasn’t just his wife that commented on the fans. Cody Rhodes went to his personal Twitter and commented on the WWE fans’ reaction to his return on WWE television.
“Troubled seeing some people think I’d allow or be comfortable w/the worst thing that’s ever happened to me be exploited on TV for a ‘return.’ “
Normally, wrestling fans are a family that surrounds each other with love and support. That’s especially true when a WWE “family member” passes away, like Dusty Rhodes, Ultimate Warrior, or Randy Savage. Instead, those who criticized Cody Rhodes were strictly worried about the storyline on TV.
This isn’t an opinion piece, so that will be left out. However, WWE fans must realize that these superstars and divas are humans. It’s not just about going from city to city and wrestling every night. When something takes place on-screen, sometimes that is derived from their personal lives. For Cody Rhodes, he didn’t want to give up what he started. Stardust will remain on WWE TV, and fans should get used to that.
