Taylor Swift Surprises 11-Year-Old Fan Suffering From Leukemia With A $50,000 Donation Towards Medical Costs

Taylor Swift continues to amaze even the most suspecting of her fans.

The newly-crowned “Queen of Pop” has made headlines again for all the right reasons after donating $50,000 to an 11-year-old girl battling leukemia.

Naomi Oakes, who hails from Arizona and is a huge Taylor Swift fan, was recently diagnosed with an acute form of cancer. In an attempt to raise funds for her aggressive treatment cost, Naomi’s family made a video featuring Naomi singing Taylor Swift’s latest hit single, “Bad Blood,” which explained the diagnosis and how Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” had become Naomi’s “fight song” during her often-painful treatment.

Naomi was devastated that she won’t be able to attend Taylor Swift’s concert in Phoenix next month, despite having tickets, which had been given to her as an advance Christmas present from her parents. Naomi will be in the hospital, receiving treatment for an estimated nine months.

Her uncle also set up a fundraising drive on popular website GoFundMe, hoping that a wider campaign will help his niece get some much-needed attention.

What her family could not have imagined, however, was that Taylor Swift would see to Naomi’s cause personally. It is still not certain if the pop singer saw the video herself or was just notified about the appeal, but in any case, she chipped in with a staggering donation towards the young girl’s medical costs.

As Business Insider reported, with her donation, Taylor Swift also wrote a personal message to Naomi.

“To the beautiful and brave Naomi, I’m sorry you have to miss it, but there will always be more concerts. Let’s focus on getting you feeling better. I’m sending the biggest hugs to you and your family.”

When the news was broken to Naomi by her parents, the young girl was overwhelmed with such a gesture on her favorite singer’s part, and jokingly suggested that she might “pass out” with jubilation.

This is not the first time Taylor Swift has shown her generosity towards her fans. In fact, of all the pop-singer celebrities, she is one of a rare few who go to such lengths to connect with their admirers.

As reported by the Telegraph, in 2014, Taylor Swift sent Christmas presents to her biggest fans. She packed the gifts, wrote letters, and in some cases, even delivered the packages herself, much to the delight of her astounded fans.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Taylor Swift stressed that her relationship with her admirers is different from what would normally be expected.

“Not in a way that’s like, having sycophantic worshippers. My fans make fun of me – it’s really cool. They have all these Gifs of me making an idiot of myself or tripping and falling on stage. They bring humour back into it for me.”

Taylor Swift has once again managed to prove her detractors wrong. If she continues to win over people in this way, the whole world will only be inhabited by Taylor Swift’s fans.
