Melissa Benoist, Blake Jenner Wed Secretly: ‘Supergirl’ Melissa Shares Superhero Boxing & Ballet Workouts [Video]
Melissa Benoist and Blake Jenner have been secretly wed. In an ultra-private ceremony that united former Glee co-star Blake and Glee/Supergirl’s Melissa, the singers married in spring and are only now revealing their wedded bless, reported E News.
Benoist, 26, and Jenner, 22, had previously shared that they were together via plenty of PDA. Melissa’s Instagram photos have flaunted her fondness for Blake.
But now, as Benoist busily works on telling prospective viewers about Supergirl at at Comic-Con International in San Diego, Blake’s new wife apparently also decided to promote the happiness of her marriage.
Jenner and Melissa were engaged in 2013. They had revealed several months later that they were keeping their plans for the wedding day private.
“We’re just excited that it’s happening,” said Benoist. “We’re just focusing on work right now so whenever that happens…[the wedding will be] small and intimate and nice.”
Blake met his Supergirl in 2012. That was the year in which Jenner and Melissa both joined Fox’s Glee. Benoist was Mary Rose, and Blake was Ryder Lynn.
Now, as Melissa works on Supergirl, she’s determined to bring a combination of strength and female power to the role, reported People.
To portray comic-book character Kara Zor-El, Benoist is learning the art of boxing.
“I don’t think I’ve ever hit anyone before, and so I definitely had to learn technique – like how to actually punch someone and not hurt yourself more than you’re hurting the person you’re punching,” explained Melissa. “And core work and Pilates and [plyometrics], a lot of it.”
And flying is fabulous, revealed Benoist.
“The wire work is really difficult, but so fun. And when you get it right, watching the result is exhilarating. It’s a really, really cool feeling to know what it felt like, the energy I had to exert to create those flying scenes. And then the way they look is really rewarding.”
Melissa wants to be her own superhero when it comes to the stunt work. Benoist is also trying to do some of her own stunts – while hoping to avoid injury, of course.
“I’m trying to do a lot of them because I want to. I think they’re so fun. There are some that I just can’t – I really could get injured. But I’m trying to,” declared the actress.
As a former ballerina, Melissa also takes joy in using the grace that she learned in her classical training.
“I grew up as a dancer, so it feels like a leotard and skirt and tights that I wore when I was a ballerina,” revealed Benoist. “What I think is cool is to try to bring kind of a femininity to her strength. You see Superman and it’s obviously this solid thing. But I do like the idea of bringing in like a grace to it. And a fluidity and kind of this femininity to flying. It’s fun.”
As the Inquisitr reported, Melissa plays Kara Zor-El, cousin of the one-and-only Man of Steel. Others who will join her in the DC show are Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, and Faran Tahir as The Commander.
