Paula Deen’s ‘Stupidest Recipe Ever’ Goes Viral, Prompts Endless Mocking
Paula Deen has taken a bit of a public flogging in 2012, mainly due to the fact that she kept her type 2 diabetes (the kind mainly associated with lifestyle) under wraps for several years before revealing her health issues in January.
Now, Paula Deen will be the first person to say her food isn’t health food– but Deen also maintained it was possible to eat breaded, deep fried butter-esque dishes “in moderation” and still remain healthy, a fact that appears to not be true… at least in the TV cook’s case. More to the point, though, Deen only disclosed her illness (an issue that is, at its core, her own business) when the opportunity to make money shilling diabetes drugs presented itself.
Again, none of this would really have come back to bite Paula Deen in the ass had she not financially gained from pharmaceutical marketing, a shady business in and of itself. And now a recipe of Deen’s is making rounds again on the internet, causing users to giggle and mock the dish’s simplicity and Deen in general. I hope it doesn’t get us in trouble for reproducing, but the extent of Deen’s “mushy peas” recipe is:
“Melt the butter in small pot and add the peas. Cook over medium heat until peas are warm.”
Maybe you’re having a hard time remembering that, even if you read if over twice. Thankfully, at the bottom of the page, a link is present prompting you to print it so you never forget the pot, or to add peas, or to make them warm. Shine culled some of the web’s best responses to Paula Deen’s mushy peas recipe, including:
“I clicked on the “Print Recipe” link for this recipe, but my printer only printed out a sheet of paper that read, “Your An Idiot!”…and I can’t even reply to it to tell it that it misspelled “you’re”. Help!”
Another quipped:
“This recipe was really tricky to master, but once I figured it out, it was divine! The secret is to NOT use a cardboard pan to heat the peas.”
Lastly someone added:
“Intriguing recipe. Too bad I didn’t have any peas, so instead I used waffles. I melted the butter in the microwave as I don’t own any pots, luckily I’m pretty smart and remembered to take the butter out of its wrapper before putting the whole stick in the microwave. After ten minutes I opened the microwave door and liquid butter ran all over my kitchen counter. I quickly grabbed my waffles to wipe it all up and soak it in but realized I was actually using carrots which are in no way absorbent.”
Still, this Paula Deen recipe doesn’t include confectioners’ sugar or a fry daddy, so at least it’s a bit healthier than all the rest.
