Outlander fans showed up en masse for the show’s panel discussion at Comic-Con 2015 in San Diego , and they were rewarded with a few glimpses into the upcoming season of the hit show. Sam Heughan , Caitriona Balfe, Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, and Diana Gabaldon were in attendance at the panel, which released a trailer and a few photos for Season 2.
While the trailer was only revealed to those who attended Comic-Con, Deadline is reporting that Moore did state that while the series would shift to Paris, France, for a large portion of the time, it would go back to Scotland halfway through. He also noted that Gabaldon would be writing one of the scripts for the new season.
Season 2 focuses on Jamie and Claire as they head to Paris, France, and is based on Gabaldon’s second book , Dragonfly In Amber . Although the series is closely based on the books, Moore did explain that the events in the upcoming season are slightly different from what occurred in the novels.
Along with the photos, which included a few of Balfe and Heughan in their new costumes for this season, and the new trailer, the panel also released a gag reel from Season 1. The footage is set to be included in the Season 1 DVD set, which is expected to be released on September 29 of this year.
Meanwhile, fans at Comic-Con also witnessed Heughan going through with a previous bet when he showed up for the event dressed like a pirate. The bet started when Heughan was a finalist on E! Online’s Alpha Male Madness tournament with Colin O’Donoghue ( Once Upon A Time ). The two stars made a bet on Twitter that they would dress up as each other’s character if they won the competition.
As fans may remember, Heughan won the competition, and he fulfilled his end of the bargain when he appeared at Comic-Con as a pirate in the manner of O’Donoghue’s style, which includes the heavy use of eyeliner. Luckily, Kristin Dos Santos, from E! Online , was on hand to moderate the panel, and, with help from Balfe, supplied Heughan with the appropriate amount of eyeliner.
Despite everything fans were able to learn about the coming season during the event at Comic-Con, one thing that was not revealed was the premiere date for the new season.
While fans everywhere await for an official announcement, it is expected that Season 2 of Outlander will premiere sometime in 2016.
