Jamie Lee Curtis Says ‘Scream Queens’ Will Include ‘Halloween’ Homage
Jamie Lee Curtis is undoubtedly one of the world’s most beloved scream queens, thanks to her role in the Halloween movies. Longtime fans of the yogurt spokeswoman have to be thrilled that the talented star is making her triumphant return to the horror genre on the small screen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jamie Lee Curtis attended San Diego Comic-Con to talk about her role in Ryan Murphy’s new FOX TV series, Scream Queens. During the series’ panel, Curtis revealed that the second episode of the comedy-horror show will feature a fun nod to the Halloween movies.
“There is a wordless homage that I threw in that was me tipping my hat to all you Laurie Strode lovers,” Jamie Lee teased. Perhaps it will involve a wire hanger or a knitting needle.
According to USA Today, Jamie Lee Curtis’ character is the dean at a college that has been rocked by a series of gruesome murders. Her arch-nemesis is Chanel Oberlin, a superficial sorority president. Things will likely get ugly each time these very different female leaders are forced to interact, but their b**chy banter will be fun to watch.
Jamie Lee revealed that Scream Queens does a great job blending gasps and laughs.
“This makes you laugh from the beginning. And then, it’s really scary. The horror trope is well-served here – the classic use of camera, sound, visuals – to convey real terror. So, there’s a sequence that’s generally scary, but then in the middle of it, there’s something really funny that happens that you laugh at and then it just gets incredibly dark, violent and scary.”
As the Inquisitr previously reported, the Scream Queens killer is known as the “Red Devil,” and he/she wears a devil mask. Co-creator Ryan Murphy claims that viewers will have a tough time figuring out who is hiding behind that sinister piece of shiny plastic. Everyone, including Jamie Lee’s character, will behave in ways that make them possible suspects.
Jamie Lee Curtis might be one of the older members of the Scream Queen cast, but the 56-year-old isn’t just going to be sitting on the sidelines while Emma Roberts, Ariana Grande, Keke Palmer, Skyler Samuels, and Lea Michele have all the fun. Murphy already revealed that Curtis will be a “badass” who has to fight off three killers in one scene, so hopefully she has a handful of wire hangers ready for that one.
Curtis’ dean character also makes what could be a fatal mistake — she has sex. As fans of the horror genre know, this is a surefire way to end up on a serial killer’s list of victims. Ryan Murphy revealed that Jamie Lee Curtis’ sex partner will be an 18-year-old, so fans can have fun trying to figure out which actor she gets to get it on with. A few possibilities include Nick Jonas, Lucien Laviscount, and Diego Boneta.
