J.K. Rowling Calls Twitter Troll ‘Idiot’ For Serena Williams Comment
Throughout the day, bestselling author J.K. Rowling told her Twitter followers that she was supporting Serena Williams – who won her sixth Wimbledon title earlier today. But one thing Rowling may not have expected was that someone’s response to her tweet would be a body-shaming comment against Williams. However, Rowling replied with just a few words, and swiftly handled the troll.
J.K. Rowling started by sharing an image of her with Williams, and calling her one of the nicest persons she has ever met.
I’m #TeamSerena today, because you don’t meet many super-talented people nicer than she is. Go @serenawilliams! pic.twitter.com/KHDYNCt6Ls

As the Wimbledon tournament progressed, Rowling fired off more tweets to show her support.
Go Serena! #SerenaWilliams — J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) July 11, 2015
YES YES YES! #SerenaWilliams
— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) July 11, 2015
#SerenaSlam! I love her. What an athlete, what a role model, what a woman! — J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) July 11, 2015
But then one user known as Rob, who has since made his tweets private, made the comment that the reason why Williams has been so successful is because “she is built like a man,” according to E! Online. Rowling wouldn’t let the tweet go unnoticed, and quoted that comment in a response to the man.
.@diegtristan8 “she is built like a man”. Yeah, my husband looks just like this in a dress. You’re an idiot. pic.twitter.com/BCvT10MYkI — J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) July 11, 2015
Rowling’s comment received an overwhelming response from her followers and other Twitter users, most of whom applauded her reaction to the user’s comment.
@jk_rowling @maxharlanwhite @diegtristan8 Amen, sister Rowling, amen. — Brent Staples (@BrentNYT) July 11, 2015
@jk_rowling@diegtristan8 Good work, Madame. I salute you #Serena

And while Rowling did show a lot of support for Williams throughout the tournament, she told one fan that she is not a tennis player herself.
.@xcodelario My tennis game is non-existent. Feeble little arms like a T-Rex due to years of typing, typing, typing. Strong fingers though.

Rowling is no stranger to handling Twitter trolls. Earlier this year, the Inquisitr reported that she would like to see Dumbledore and Gandalf get married in Ireland — which became the first country to legalize same-sex marriage via a popular vote. Once her comment made its way to the people at the Westboro Baptist Church, they told her they would picket the wedding if it were to actually happen. Rowling did not hold back when responding to their comment.
.@WBCsigns Alas, the sheer awesomeness of such a union in such a place would blow your tiny bigoted minds out of your thick sloping skulls.
