The panel for History Channel’s Vikings has just finished at San Diego Comic Con and now fans can get their very first look at the trailer for season 4 of Vikings . Here’s what we learn from the video but be warned, SPOILERS abound in this article if you have not watched up to the season 3 finale of Vikings :
- Is that Athelstan (played by George Blagden) talking at the start of the Vikings trailer?
- It seems Rollo (Clive Standen) really will marry Princess Gisla (Morgane Polanski), but the good princess in still not happy about it. And Ragnar certainly isn’t either we discover further on in the trailer. Will this betrayal be the one that finally separates the two brothers?
- Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) is rallying the vikings by asking who they follow and then declaring it is Ragnar (Travis Fimmel).
- But in the very next breath there is the mention of “one generation pass[ing] away and another generation comes.” Is this foreshadowing Ragnar’s death in season 4?
- Bjorn “order[s] the arrest of Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård) for the murder of Athelstan.” Is this when the vikings shift from their beliefs in the Norse gods over to the Christian God?
- For those who suspected season 4 of Vikings would start with the death of Ragnar, have no fear, Ragnar is definitely in this trailer, although it may be hit and miss with his health at the start of the season. He is speaking about betrayal as Floki is chained up at his feet. Ragnar looks healthy during this section of the trailer and is walking strong and upright, although he does look a little ill, being somewhat purple around his eyes, perhaps an indicator Ragnar is just holding a solid front to bluff everyone?
- Floki appears to be slung up in a cave. Is he to be sacrificed in season 4 of Vikings ? His fear suggest so.
- Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) is asking the Seer (John Kavanagh) if a woman will ever “succeed to the kingdom of Kattegat.” Is Aslaug planning ot betray her husband? The Seer does, in fact, confirm that a woman will rule Kattegat — but does he mean Aslaug or Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick)?
- King Ecbert (Linus Roache) is still concerned at the vikings returning to raid — and so he should be, he betrayed them pretty substantially in season 3.
- Lagertha appears to spend a lot of this new Vikings trailer in a bloody dress before kneeling before a man, knife in hand, like she is about to remove his manhood — is it Kalf (Ben Robson)? Or someone else?
Once again, the theme running through this season of Vikings seems to be betrayal — especially towards Ragnar.
Vikings season 4 will premiere on History Channel. As yet there is no confirmation of the start date beyond 2016.
