‘Destiny’ 2.0 Update Making Quests Central With ‘The Taken King’ And Existing Content
The first details of the many changes coming to Destiny with “The Taken King” and the 2.0 update was detailed by Bungie on Friday. Quests are getting an upgrade from their current form in the PlayStation and Xbox shooter and being made an integral part of the game’s experience.
“The Taken King” Creative Director Luke Smith correctly pointed out in the Weekly Update that Exotic Bounties, such as the ones for Thorn and Bad Juju, provided players with a multi-step journey that included some memorable moments as well as some not so memorable ones. They also provided a reward worthy for Destiny players to say, “I earned that.”

We then saw Destiny grow with more quests in “The Dark Below” and “House of Wolves,” such as the Urn of Sacrifice and others. These were adventures that Bungie has correctly identified that players enjoy, so they will become more central to the game with the 2.0 update.
“Quests are an arrangement of activities and challenges that tell a story and represent a journey for the player,” Smith wrote.
“We want Destiny to provide more experiences like that,” he continued before offering the teasiest of teases.
“Like the quest in The Taken King that has you construct your [REDACTED] or when you’ve found [REDACTED REDACTED] and can finish [REDACTED].”
The image above shows the new Quest Page. There’s a high-level overview of the current quests available along with an indicator of what step in the quest line the player is currently at. It’s also clear that Destiny players will be able to hold many Quests as there is room for 32.
Meanwhile, you can see the new setup using the familiar welcome quest line from “House of Wolves” in the Quest detail image below. Currently, this communicated to Destiny players in a one-step at a time fashion from the Bounty in the inventory menu. The Quest Page will list all of the steps for the Quest, mark which ones are completed and give a description of each step.
The big news here is that an all-new Quest Page is being added to Destiny that covers not just the new content from “The Taken King,” but all the content from the first year of the game as well. This new page will be used to track both Quests and Bounties and increase the number of the latter that can be carried to 16.
Better yet, completed Bounties can be turned in from the Quests Page instead of venturing back to the Tower or Reef to turn them in. That will greatly help stop Destiny players from interrupting the journey as a group just to turn these in.
Another change is the faction reputation screen being moved from the drop-down menu in the Inventory screen to the new Quest page.
Bungie had already hinted at this change coming to Destiny by mentioning that the three new Guardian sub-classes will have to be earned through different adventures.
