Etan Patz, who disappeared more than three decades ago when he was six-years-old , is still missing. The FBI reopened the search for Patz last week but were unable to find the boy’s remains.
Detective Joseph Cavitola, spokesman for the New York Police Department, told CNN that the search was ending.
The FBI conducted a field test on a possible blood stain on the floor of a NYC basement but the results were negative. The stain, some hair, and other possible pieces of evidence have been sent to a laboratory in Virginia for further testing.
Patz went missing 32 years ago when he was walking to the bus station. The FBI reopened the case after a cadaver dog got a “hit” at a building on Patz’s route to the bus stop. The FBI reports that Othniel Miller, a carpenter who owns the workshop in the basement of the building, had put down fresh cement days after Patz went missing. The cement was not dug up at the time of Patz’s disappearance.
Miller was never charged with Patz’s disappearance. Miller’s lawyer said:
“Mr. Miller has been cooperating with this investigation for over 30 years… He has continued to cooperate on multiple occasions. And I am going to assist him in cooperating to the fullest extent possible.”
CNN reports that the evidence found at the scene were sent to an FBI laboratory in Quantico, Virginia. It could take several weeks for the analysis to be completed.
