Angelina Jolie Takes A Break From Engagement Celebration, Visits Ecuador
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were busy celebrating their recently announced engagement with friends and family this week when Jolie decided to take some time away from the celebration in order to help displaced Colombians seek refuge in Ecuador.
Never one to shy away from her philanthropic duties Jolie made her first trip to the country since she was named a special envoy earlier this month.
During her trip Angelina met with Ecuador’s Foreign Minister, Ricardo Patino and they were spotted walking together as they talked about the promotion of the ‘Thanks Ecuador’ campaign.
Jolie visited the village of Barranco Bermeja which plays host to 50 families, 60% which are Colombian refugees which makes the village the largest refugee population in Latin America.
Angelina Jolie made the trip in a simple black vest top and no make-up aside from some shiny lipgloss, choosing not to stand out as she met with and listened to the stories of villagers and chatted with locals including a farmer who is part of the areas agricultural project that is attempting to make farmers self sufficient while improving nutritional standards in the region.
When asked last week what Angelina Jolie’s role in the region would be UNHCR spokesman Adrian Edwards told the Daily Mail:
“UNHCR spokesman Adrian Edwards said last week: ‘She is expected to focus on large-scale crises resulting in the mass displacement of people, to undertake advocacy and represent UNHCR and Mr Guterres at the diplomatic level, engaging with relevant interlocutors on global displacement issues.”
Jolie has been busy lately, while she may be in Ecuador now she recently flew with soon-to-be husband Brad Pitt and their six children to the Galapagos Islands where they celebrated their engagement.
