Actor Cameron Monaghan found a creative way to confirm that he will play the Joker on the small-screen.
The 21-year-old Gotham actor posted a mugshot photo of himself in character on Instagram Wednesday.
Cameron Monaghan teased Gotham fans during the first season of the show with the possibility of portraying the Joker when he made his debut.
There were just too many similarities between Cameron's character, Jerome, and the Joker that were apparently not overlooked by fans of the Dark Knight's iconic nemesis.

„#Gotham" – Staffel 2 - Outet sich Cameron Monaghan als Joker? http://t.co/aFYJiRJu1Z pic.twitter.com/nwZRdjbNtUIn a May interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller had a chance to open up about what's in store for viewers in the highly-anticipated second season.

According to Heller, the new season would primarily target the Joker -- focusing heavily on his back-story and how he eventually became the villain that fans love to hate and hate to love today.
"We're going to find out how the hell Jerome, the proto-Joker we met earlier in this season, connects with the Joker as people known him. That's the big focus of the beginning of the second season. We're going to tell the story of how the Joker came to be."By playing the Joker in Gotham, Cameron Monaghan joins a relatively short list of actors that have played the diabolical villain in a TV series.
The late Cesar Romero Jr. played the Joker in the 1960s Batman series, which starred Adam West as the Caped Crusader.

Who's your fav voice from 90s superhero cartoons? (Mark Hamill as the Joker is up there…) http://t.co/SEDZ9B0LCB pic.twitter.com/6f3o9A5dQ4Therefore, Cameron Monaghan has some pretty big clown shoes to fill when the second season of Gotham premieres Monday, September 21. It should be very interesting to see exactly how the Joker's backstory will be told by Bruno Heller and his team of writers in the intense crime drama series.
