USA Renews ‘Suits’ For Season 6, Plus Why Is Charles Barkley In Season 5 Episode 3? [Preview]
It’s official. Suits has been renewed by USA for a sixth season, to be comprised of 16 episodes. The announcement comes after the series has already had a successful run for the USA network, and managed to garner 3.4 million viewers as the show returned last week in its Season 5 premiere.
“Suits has set the bar high in every way and continues to be a strong performer and marquee property for USA,” network president Chris McCumber told the Hollywood Reporter.
“From the incredible onscreen performances and brilliant writing to the aspirational lifestyle portrayed, we look forward to continuing to bring viewers into the world of Suits every week.”
Suits stars Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams, and is currently the second longest running show for the USA network. Further, the renewal for a sixth season marks the earliest renewal the show has ever experienced. In light of its successful run so far, Jeff Wachtel, the chief content officer at NBC, believes the show still has a number of great seasons in its future.
“Suits has delivered a smart and sexy roller-coaster ride for five seasons,” Wachtel explained in a statement following the renewal announcement. “Aaron Korsh has some great surprises for the audience at the end of season five that should really set future seasons on an exciting new course.”
Speaking of what’s to come, Season 5 of Suits is well underway. The new season centers on Harvey Specter as he deals with the departure of his legal secretary, Donna. Along with the main storyline, the season is set to feature a surprise guest appearance in Episode 3 by Charles Barkley. Why is the former NBA star set to appear as himself in the series?
According to the synopsis for the coming episode, Harvey plans to bring in some star power to help with his fight against Jack Soloff. Though it is still unknown if Barkley’s presence helps Harvey or not, Louis and Donna will be dragged into the matter, despite trying their best to avoid it.
Elsewhere, the episode will also see Mike bringing in Robert Zane to counsel a case with him in order to stay in good favor with his future in-laws. Additionally, Jessica is forced to negotiate between Mike and Zane while she gives Rachel a strange assignment.
