‘Outlander’ Season 2 First Official Photos, See Sam Heughan And Caitriona Balfe Take Paris
As fans eagerly await the premiere of Season 2 of Outlander, Starz has released new photos that should help fans deal with the absence of the hit show. The two images offer a first look at Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) in the new season, which features the characters in a completely new setting.
Season 2 of Outlander will center on the couple as they make their way to Paris, France. This change of scenery is reflected in the new images, as one photo shows Jamie sitting down and drinking some wine, while Claire is seen in the other image dressed in an elegant period dress.
In addition to the new photos, Ronald D. Moore sat down with Entertainment Weekly and discussed how the new season will begin, along with the main goal and story arc.
“The story of Jamie and Claire in the 18th century pretty much starts with their arrival in France. The big story point picks up from where we left Season 1, which is Claire and Jamie deciding to attempt to change history by stopping the Jacobite rebellion and changing history so as to prevent the slaughter on Culloden Moor and the destruction of the Highland culture after it. That’s the major plot going into the season.”
Although the new season is based on Diana Gabaldon’s book, Dragonfly in Amber, Moore admitted that the book’s complicated structure resulted in changes for the television adaptation. “I think there’s more adaptation. I think there are changes,” he stated. “For fans who know the book, they know the book is more complicated structure in terms of how Diana wrote it.”
Moore went on to reveal that while the second season isn’t a literal translation of Gabaldon’s book, it is still very similar in terms of storyline. “It’s not going to be a literal adaptation … But I think it’s very much the same story, the major characters are all represented, the major scenes are all represented, and it still gets you to all the same places you want to go.”
Meanwhile, according to Realty Today, Heughan recently stated that he was thrilled to begin production for new season, which recently got underway.
“I was definitely very, very excited — we all were — to come back to the show… It feels like an old family and everyone’s there, but it feels familiar, which is wonderful.”
Season 2 of Outlander is expected to premiere in the spring of 2016.
