‘Deadpool’: First R-Rated Superhero Movie Coming To Cinema Screens Near You

Deadpool is all set for his own movie.

Ryan Reynolds will be reprising his role as Deadpool, one of the most violent comic book superheroes to make it to the big screen in recent years.

Having already played a sanitized version of the character in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Reynolds now has the opportunity to play the lead in Deadpool, where the mercenary loudmouth character from Marvel’s Cinematic Universe is expected to be his most authentic self yet.

Tim Miller, who is known for designing the impressive open credits sequence for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, is directing Deadpool, on a script by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Slated for a release in February next year, the shooting of the film is already wrapped up, according to Coming Soon.

It was earlier reported that Robert Rodriguez was to direct Deadpool, but after negotiations with 20th Century Fox fell through, visual effects specialist Tim Miller was hired as director. As Entertainment Weekly reported, Miller cited an unlikely source as the inspiration for his film.

“I felt Fight Club and Tyler Durden were good corollaries. We are in strip clubs and dive bars and crappy apartments and far away from the shiny X-Men world.”

Out of the recent splurge of superhero films emerging from Hollywood, Deadpool will be the first one to be rated R. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, producer Simon Kerg further emphasised that Deadpool will not be toned down for the sake of a more audience-friendly rating.

“Deadpool is hard R. It’s graphic. Nothing is taboo. You either commit to a truly outrageous boundary-pushing kind of movie or you don’t.”

Other than Reynolds, TJ Miller will star as Weasel, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, and Ed Skrein as Ajax.

It is also rumored that Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine in a cameo appearance. In an earlier interview with News Australia, Reynolds had said he would love Jackman to star in Deadpool, but that scheduling concerns persisted.

“God I hope so, that would be really nice. I dunno, we’ll see. It seems like he’s open to it, but it’s gonna be more of a scheduling issue than anything else.”

A blabbermouth character who is sometimes funny and at other times obscene, but almost always entertaining, Deadpool is set to make his mark in the superhero world. Are we ready for him?
