‘Minecraft: Story Mode’ Revealed With New Hero, Impressive Cast List
The first trailer and details for Minecraft: Story Mode was revealed at Minecon 2015 on Saturday. The Mojang and Telltale Games collaboration sports an impressive cast of actors as the open-world sandbox game is transformed into an episodic adventure title for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, and mobile devices.
Minecraft: Story Mode was first announced at Minecon last year, where it was revealed that Steve would not be the main character. Instead, Patton Oswalt’s Jesse is the featured protagonist through all five episodes when it is released later this year.
Here is the official description of the game from the YouTube trailer.

“Players will control protagonist Jesse throughout the season, as portrayed by actor Patton Oswalt. Jesse and his group of friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone; four adventurers who slayed an Ender Dragon. The Order is the very best at what they do: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect. While at EnderCon, Jesse and his friends discover that something is wrong… something dreadful. Terror is unleashed, and they must set out on a journey to find The Order of the Stone if they are to save their world from oblivion.”
Minecraft: Story Mode is done in the style of many of the Minecraft machinima videos you see on YouTube, judging by the trailer. That works for the animation style needed to pull off Teltale’s genre of choice and consequence games.
In addition to Patton Oswalt as Jesse, there’s also the following impressive list of voice actors from video games, TV, and movies.
- Brian Posehn (Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Surf’s Up)
- Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us, Tales from the Borderlands)
- Scott Porter (Batman: Arkham Knight, Speed Racer)
- Martha Plimpton (The Goonies, The Good Wife)
- Dave Fennoy (The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us)
- Corey Feldman (The Goonies, Stand By Me)
- Billy West (Futurama, Adventure Time)
- Paul Reubens (Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, The Nightmare Before Christmas)
“The interactive storytellers at Telltale are giving players the chance to explore their own unique interpretation of the Minecraft universe,” said Owen Hill, Chief Word Officer at Mojang. “They’ve crafted a story that follows the logic of Minecraft, but still manages to feel original. It’s actually pretty funny too. And the pig is adorable. We’re super excited about players digging deeper into the world of Minecraft: Story Mode later this year.”
