WWE Rumors: Who Did The Undertaker Want To Face At ‘WrestleMania,’ But Never Got The Chance?
In the grand scheme of things, The Undertaker is one of the most well-respected people in all of professional wrestling. He’s been in the business for decades and has pretty much done everything that anyone could have ever wanted to do in a wrestling ring and around it. Well, it appears there was one thing he didn’t get to do and it was face Kurt Angle at WrestleMania.
TNA star Kurt Angle took part in a Q&A session on Facebook in which he answered questions on a number of topics. One of those was if he wanted to face off with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 22 back in 2006.
It appears as if not only did Angle want to face the “Dead Man,” but The Undertaker wanted to battle it out with him too.
“Undertaker at Mania was only a thought that Undertaker came up with. I would have preferred him at Mania. Not to break the streak, but for the respect I have for him. At that point in his career, he didn’t have that “Mania Match” he always wanted. But he did after WM 22. Shawn Michaels, HHH. So I’m happy he got the mania matches he deserved.”
At WrestleMania 22, Undertaker ended up facing off with Mark Henry and defeating him in a Casket Match. Kurt Angle ended up losing the World Heavyweight Championship in a triple threat match with Rey Mysterio and Randy Orton when Mysterio pinned Orton.
The big match between The Undertaker and Kurt Angle actually happened about a month and a half before at No Way Out. It actually ended up being the Pay-Per-View before WrestleMaina 22 and ended with Mark Henry interfering to break up Taker’s pin and causing him to lose.
At the Royal Rumble in January, Angle had defeated Mark Henry to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. Rey Mysterio had won the 30-man match, but Orton ended up winning at No Way Out to be included in the match at WrestleMania 22.
Angle continued on in the Q&A session and spoke on a number of topics such as the current state of TNA, the 1996 Olympics, and past matches. He was even asked if he could re-live one match, what would it be, and he spoke of one with a serious WWE name.
“Brock Lesnar Mania 19. But I’d prefer to be healthy instead of injured. And for Brock to complete the shooting star. Lol.”
This was the match in which so many fans had hoped that Brock Lesnar would break out the Shooting Star Press that he had become so well known for in developmental. Well, Lesnar did break it out, but landed on his head and almost broke his neck.
From there, one more question caught the eyes of many fans and it was about Kurt Angle’s retirement match, and who he would like it to be against. Oddly enough, he answered with the name of another great technical wrestler who has also suffered a lot of injuries — Daniel Bryan.
“My retirement match would be Daniel Bryan. He’s so polished in the ring. I just don’t know if it’s possible. But I’d Love it!”
Kurt Angle has some high aspirations, and they’re good ones in the minds of wrestling fans, but they are also big dreams. He wanted to face The Undertaker at WrestleMania, re-do his Brock Lesnar match, and have a retirement match against Daniel Bryan. At least he has a good head on his shoulders.
