Ben Affleck: Old-Fashioned Parenting Caused Marriage Trouble, Says Source
In the midst of one of the most high-profile breakups this year, an undisclosed source opened up about Ben Affleck and his parenting style, claiming that his old-fashioned values played a huge part in the demise of his marriage.
According to People, an undisclosed entertainment source states that although Affleck is a loving father, his traditional views on parenting and marriage have caused a rift between him and soon to be ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, 43.
“He’s like a ’50s dad. He thinks work is your priority and providing money for your family is your priority, and raising the kids day to day and making a nice house is the wife’s priority.”
Yet, Garner, an actress herself, reportedly found Affleck’s views on marriage and parenting hard to handle. It affects her career and, allegedly, has caused animosity towards Affleck.
“It leaves too much of the burden on Jen to be a mom and dad to the children when she also has a career. Ben is a good dad when he is around, but he has so many outside interests and personal issues to get beyond.”
Another source, however, disputes these claims and indicates that Affleck pulled in his share of work as a father and a husband.
“He really enjoys what he does. Sure, he works a lot, but it doesn’t mean he doesn’t go back to the kids. Those allegations that he chose work over her are not true. He in no way thinks a woman’s place is in the home. Quite the contrary, he has on numerous occasions supports and pushes Jen to work. She worked this summer while he was home.”
Regardless, the once happy couple will continue on with their plans to divorce. It seems, however, that they plan to stay amicable and will work together as parents. They were recently spotted vacationing in the Bahamas with their three children, Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3.
Although Affleck has been relatively mum on this divorce issue, he did open up recently on working with Garner on the 2003 film, Daredevil.
“Daredevil didn’t work, at all. If I wanted to go viral, I would be less polite. That was before people realized you could make these movies and make them well. There was a cynical sense of ‘Put a red leather outfit on a guy, have him run around, hunt some bad guys, and cash the check.'”
Ben Affleck married Garner in 2005. Their relationship was announced after the demise of Affleck’s tumultuous, high-profile relationship with actress and singer Jennifer Lopez.
