It turns out that Ben Affleck’s old flame Jennifer Lopez may have played a part in his divorce from Jennifer Garner, In Touch Weekly is reporting .
As previously reported by the Inquisitr , Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announced their divorce , after 10 years of marriage, earlier this week.
“After much thought and careful consideration we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time.”
While celebrity-watchers have speculated about the reasons for the couple’s divorce – Ben’s drinking? Ben’s gambling? – an unnamed source close to the couple now tells The Sun that Ben and his old fiancee Jennifer Lopez were getting close again .
“Everyone is talking about J-Lo and Ben and saying it’s inevitable they will get together again at some point. We call them the Richard Burton and Liz Taylor of Hollywood. They were pretty flirty at the Oscars and have stayed in touch over email. Jennifer Garner never liked it.”
Just how flirty? According to The New York Daily News , during a commercial break, Ben “whispered something” in Lopez’ ear, to which she “playfully” swatted away his arm.
You may remember that Affleck and Lopez dated for over a year in the early 2000’s. Their fiery romance introduced the world to the term “Bennifer” and started the national trend of naming couples by combining their names (Brangelina, anyone?). Incessant media attention to the so-called “power couple” eventually did them in; they broke up 2004.
However, in a 2012 interview with People , Affleck admitted that he and Lopez were still on friendly terms , even though he was married to Garner at the time.
“We don’t have the kind of relationship where she relies on me for advice, but we do have the kind of relationship where there’ll be an e-mail saying, ‘Oh, your movie looks great.’”
Speculation that she and Ben Affleck might be getting back together is probably news to Jennifer Lopez. However, just hours after Ben and Jennifer (Garner’s) divorce announcement hit the news, Jennifer (Lopez) was spotted out and about by paparazzi, walking the dogs with her on-again off-again boyfriend, dancer Casper Smart, according to The New York Daily News .
As of this post, neither Ben Affleck nor Jennifer Lopez have publicly commented on rumors that their relationship played a role in Affleck and Garner’s divorce.
