Taraji P. Henson’s Purple Hair Debut: ‘Empire’ Star Rocks New Ombre Look, Fans Go Wild

Taraji P. Henson’s purple hair makeover has Empire fans buzzing, and it seems that everybody loves the look. The star debuted her new look on Instagram over the weekend, and it appears to be a big hit. While there’s no word on how long she will keep the color, it looks like she is having fun with it so far.

The Empire style shared a picture on Instagram showcasing the new look and she noted that she’s just playing around with color. Taraji P. Henson’s purple hair photo garnered more than 118,000 “likes” on Instagram and more than 2,400 comments. The comments overwhelmingly praised the actress for the new look and buzzed about trying something similar out for themselves.

Henson posted a second photo the next day showing the purple hair in a different light that made it seem even more vibrant. She indicated that she’s loving the color and she praised hairstylist Marcia Hamilton of Hamilton Hair for creating the look. It seems they’ve dubbed the look “The Modern Storm” and both are thrilled with the outcome.

Will fans be seeing Taraji P. Henson’s purple hair on Cookie Lyon when Season 2 of Empire begins on Fox this fall? That much isn’t known for certain quite yet, though fans would likely say they could certainly see Cookie rocking this look.

“Mermaid hair” is all the rage right now, with other celebrities like Nicole Richie, Kylie Jenner, Kelly Osbourne, and Hilary Duff all having toyed with some wild color variations lately themselves as well. While some can’t necessarily pull off the look all that well, it would seem that in Henson’s case, the deep purple, lilac and silver ombre style suits her well.

As for Season 2 of Empire, new episodes begin again on September 23. As Variety notes, this next season will consist of 18 episodes and viewers should likely brace themselves for something of a split season. That is often the case with Fox shows in particular, as the fall gets taken over by baseball playoffs.

The first season certainly ended with a bang and fans can’t wait to see what Season 2 brings. There will be a new slate of guest stars in these new Empire episodes with Lenny Kravitz, Alicia Keys and Chris Rock already booked and surely more on the way. As for what lies ahead with Cookie and the rest of the Lyon crew, viewers will have to stay tuned to find out.
