A ‘Once Upon A Time’ Exclusive Offers A First Look At King Arthur [Spoilers]
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Once Upon A Time.
Fans of Once Upon A Time know by know that the fifth season will draw in characters from the Camelot legend, beginning primarily with Merlin, since it seems that Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) can only be saved from The Dark One’s curse by that legendary wizard. It stands to reason, however, that other figures from the Arthurian legend will also be visiting Storybrooke.
Bringing Camelot to Once Upon A Time also means that Lancelot (Sinqua Walls) will be returning in Season 5, which will require a deeper look into his past. Once Upon A Time fans already know that Lancelot was previously dishonored over a woman and, if rumors ring true, that woman will be revealed as the one and only Guinevere.
As Lancelot was killed off in a previous season, the character may only appear in flashbacks, unless the Once Upon A Time writers devise some way of returning Lancelot to the land of the living.
Although Guinevere has yet to be cast and King Arthur, who is said to harbor eternal love for the maiden, has yet to be mentioned on Once Upon A Time, the show’s producers have cast the role of King Arthur, foretelling the possibility of a new love triangle set to develop in Once Upon A Time‘s new season.
King Arthur will be played by British performer Liam Garrigan. Previously, Garrigan has appeared in a variety of television shows, including 24: Live Another Day, Strike Back, and The Pillars of the Earth, a Starz miniseries. Liam will appear in the season premiere of Once Upon A Time and will recur in his King Arthur role throughout the season.
“As we do on Once Upon a Time, we’re doing our own twist on Camelot, on Arthur’s background and on his relationships with Merlin, Guinevere and Lancelot,” say the Once Upon A Time producers.
In addition to Guinevere, Once Upon A Time producers are still casting for the role of Merlin, who is said to be the only sorcerer capable of destroying The Dark One. It has also been said that Camelot will figure heavily into the new Once Upon A Time season, so there may be several new casting additions to fill out King Arthur’s Round Table.
Once Upon A Time will premiere on September 27 on ABC.
