Sherri Shepherd Custody Battle: Former ‘View’ Co-Host Reaches Agreement With Ex, Lamar Sally

It seems that Sherri Shepherd’s custody battle with ex-husband Lamar Sally has been settled, at least for now. Though the two started the process of having a baby via surrogate when they were still married, things got ugly when the couple split. What’s the latest on this one?

As was previously reported by the Inquisitr, when Sherri Shepherd’s baby was born, the former View co-host distanced herself. She indicated that she wanted nothing to do with the baby, and she didn’t want to be held responsible financially. She added that she had been defrauded into pursuing the surrogacy.

According to TMZ, Sherri Shepherd’s custody and divorce case has finally been resolved. It seems that she will pay child support for Lamar Sally Jr., which she had been vigorously trying to avoid. However, she may not necessarily be held responsible for long.

It seems that at this point, Shepherd is responsible for paying Sally $4,100 a month in child support, and the amount increases to $4,600 a month when the child becomes a teenager. The settlement stipulates, however, that Sherri can continue to push forward on her allegations regarding fraud. If things swing her way on that front, she will no longer be held responsible for the child support.

As People reported in April, a judge ruled that Shepherd is the child’s legal mother. The child was born last August, and initially, Sherri kept her name off the birth certificate. The surrogate, Jessica Bartholomew, was on the certificate instead. Sally pushed to have Shepherd declared the legal mother and the judge ultimately agreed.

Shepherd’s allegations of fraud reportedly come from the idea that Sherri believes that Sally pushed her into having a child via surrogacy solely to eventually divorce her and seek child support, noted TMZ. While Sherri shared many happy stories about her romance and marriage while she was still on the View, things changed dramatically once the split came about.

While the battle regarding the fraud allegations continues, Sherri Shepherd’s custody settlement agreement goes into place now. At this point, there doesn’t seem to be any word regarding what comes next regarding her fraud claims, though it seems that is working its way through the appeals court.

The divorce and custody cases have been ugly ones in this case and from the sounds of things there’s more yet to come. Will Sherri Shepherd’s custody and child support commitments change down the road based on her fraud allegations? Fans will have to stay tuned to find out.
