NeNe Leakes Leaving ‘Real Housewives Of Atlanta,’ But Could Already Be Planning A Return
NeNe Leakes announced that she’s leaving Real Housewives of Atlanta, but the popular reality star may not have a long hiatus from the popular reality show.
The reality star announced this week that she doesn’t plan to return to the show.
“This was definitely a hard decision for me,” Leakes announced. “Me and my husband (Gregg Leakes) have been going back and forth on it for weeks now. But my contract is up and I just think this is the right time. This is my opportunity to spread my wings and do different things.”
The departure came as a bit of a surprise, given that Leakes was one of the most popular cast members on the show, but there is a chance that fans could still see her in the future. Late on Tuesday, reports emerged that NeNe Leakes may not be leaving the show for good, and could return in a smaller role if the money is right.
NeNe Leakes hasn’t commented on the report, but hinted that she would be coming back to television in a different venue.
“I’m actually going to be doing a new primetime television show with a big legend,” she shared. “All of my fans will get to see me be really happy, witty and funny and tell all of those one liners that I always have said on Housewives.”
Show creator Andy Cohen seems to be sticky on the idea of her returning. After an Instagram commenter asked if he was “just going to let @neneleakes leave the show like that,” Andy responded, “it’s a free country. She wasn’t into it any more! Couldn’t you tell?”
Just a day before, Cohen appeared to be decidedly in Nene’s corner.
We love @NeNeLeakes & she is always welcome back to the house she helped build! She’s a Real Housewife forever!!

NeNe had posted Cohen’s original tweet and left a sweet message of her own.
“This is so hard for me to type! I cry as I do so! I am so Grateful for all the love and laughs!” she wrote Monday. “Thank you so much to everyone that has watched and supported me over the years on this amazing platform! With lots of thoughts and prayer I’ve decided to step out on faith and not fear. #nomoRHOA4me.”
It seems that Andy Cohen has reverted to his original stance supporting her. Just after NeNe Leakes announced she was leaving the show, sources say she is already talking with Bravo producers about a possible return to Real Housewives of Atlanta.
