Christina Hendricks In ‘Big Red’ Demand After ‘Mad Men’
Christina Hendricks may have bid farewell to her seven seasons as Joan Holloway of Mad Men, but this redhead and her killer curves are in demand in Hollywood. “Big Red” demand.
Her current release is an Indie feature entitled Dark Places by Gillian Flynn, the writer of Gone Girl. The film was released on the small screen last week for DirecTV viewers, and makes its big screen debut on August 8.
The role sets Hendricks as mom to Charlize Theron’s character Libby Day, per Indiewire, through a series of flashbacks a quarter century after Day’s family is massacred, resulting in Day testifying against her brother.
Christina was first cast as the character Krissi Cates but was later chosen for the more prominent role of murdered mother Patty Day. Samantha Morton was originally cast to play the slain Patty according to Deadline Hollywood.
Named Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive in 2010, Hendricks has been named in countless top lists of beautiful people worldwide.
The actress garnered five Emmy nominations in the category of Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and two Critics’ Choice Television Awards for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Joan per the Television Academy website.
As reported in an interview with the Guardian, Hendricks and her manager loved the script of Mad Men and both wanted the then-32-year-old to take the part of Joan. Her agency refused, according to Christina.
“Regarding Mad Men,”[Hendricks’ agency] said, ‘It’s a period piece, it’s never going to go anywhere. We need you to make money and this isn’t going to make money.’ They ended up dropping me.”
She continued.
“I had been on several shows that were meant to be the big ones, that would go on for ever, and they didn’t. So there was no sure bet and I’d already taken a chance on them and I felt, why not do the one you’re in love with and take a chance on that?”
Vanity Fair discovered the actress and her MM cast would sing show tunes during cast parties.
“We’re all surprisingly into musicals,” revealed Christina. “There was a lot of singing of Little Shop of Horrors, ‘Defying Gravity’ [from Wicked], and a little bit of Frozen.”
Something about this revelation made her add, “I wish we were cooler.”
The actress has been known to mention an interest in Broadway now and then. She got her wish with the opportunity to star alongside Neil Patrick Harris in the 2011 production of Company at the New York Philharmonic.
Hendricks starred in the Indie film God’s Pocket, released in August 2014 and directed by Mad Men’s John Slattery. The film was one of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman’s last roles, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The actress, affectionately known by fans as “Big Red,” performed her first voice-over role as Lois Lane in the animated movie All Star Superman, according to Comic Book Resources.
She appeared on Sesame Street in May along with fellow redhead Elmo. People noted the irony in the vignette, as Hendricks juggles a series of technological devices her MM character Joan Holloway wouldn’t have dreamed of.
And then there’s a little show called Firefly by Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon. Christina Hendricks only graced two episodes in the series, yet she is beloved by die-hard fans of the show. Her character’s true identify was never revealed, as she went by aliases Saffron, Yolanda, and Bridget. YoSaffBridge, as her character is fondly referred to, is right up there on any Comic Con guest list with the likes of Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin.
As usual, this buxom redhead stood out, and, as previously reported in the Inquisitr, she hasn’t given up on shows flaunting her, or covering her up, in period undergarments.
