After Jimmy Fallon almost ripped his finger off after taping Thursday night’s The Tonight Show , he was rushed to the hospital. As a result of this, he had to cancel the show on Friday.
Friday night’s show was slated to include guests Benicio Del Toro ( Snatch ), Taylor Kitsch ( John Carter ), and comedians Penn & Teller. Instead, it was canceled and a re-run was scheduled in its place.
It is unknown if Friday night’s lineup could be resumed on some later date. The show has been scheduled to return after a two-week hiatus to allow Jimmy Fallon’s hand injury time to heal.
The accident happened on Thursday morning in Fallon’s Manhattan apartment after he had finished taping that night’s show. The Tonight Show host was out on the town on Wednesday night and stopped at Scalinatella for dinner. While there, he posed for pictures with fans around 9 p.m., says the Los Angeles Times . It was the following morning when a stunt he hadn’t planned went wrong.
In a tweet, Jimmy Fallon explained how he nearly ripped his finger off, falling but catching himself after tripping. While on the way down, his wedding ring had gotten caught on the nearby table, ending in the horrific injury that led to the taping of Friday night’s Tonight Show being canceled.
Fallon has done a lot of stunts throughout his career, including teaming up with Justin Timberlake on Saturday Night Live , doing on-stage tumbles with actresses across a gym mat, and even playing beer pong with giant cups and volleyballs. It’s almost ironic that the stunt which landed him in the hospital was off camera.

By Friday night, Fallon resurfaced on Twitter with a picture of his swollen and heavily bandaged hand, cast and all, telling fans about the difficulty of the post. After almost ripping his finger off, Jimmy Fallon has been forced to do it with one hand.

A follow-up tweet told fans he is doing well and thanked them for their well-wishes.
