Best Of Netflix In July: Top Five Series To Binge-Watch This Summer On The Streaming Service

With July just around the corner, Netflix has released its roster of movies and TV shows for the month, and while the lineup is a bit light on high quality cinematic fare, television junkies will find the new Netflix offerings more enticing. In fact, the Netflix July TV offerings might even be a cause for celebration — and what better way to celebrate than a binge-watch marathon of a great series.

We’ve got five TV series that will become available in July on Netflix that viewers should set aside a few days to watch in binge fashion, whether it’s for a second time for fans who caught the original airings or for viewers who prefer to wait until the shows are available for a binge-watch extravaganza.

WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER: FIRST DAY OF CAMP (Season 1)

The 2001 movie Wet Hot American Summer — a parody of every 1980s teen summer camp movie ever made — gained a strong cult following over the years, not only because the movie is hilarious, but because the cast is loaded with stars who, when the film was made, hadn’t yet hit it big.

Amazingly, for this eight-episode original series, Netflix somehow got almost the whole gang back together. Today, 14 years after the movie came out, the cast includes some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, Janeane Garofalo and quite a few more.

The all-star cast, plus the now-beloved movie on which the series is based, makes Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp one of the most eagerly awaited Netflix originals in several years. But fans eager for the First Day of Camp will have to wait until the last day of July, because that’s when Netflix debuts the sure-to-be-classic comedy series.

BOJACK HORSEMAN (Season 2)

The “Most Beloved Sitcom Horse Of The ’90s” is back, with Will Arnett voicing the animated washed-up equine actor in one of Netflix’s more bizarre original series. A satire of Hollywood pretty much as far from Entourage as you can get — despite a lineup of celebrity guest stars in voice cameos — Bojack Horseman may not be the most buzzed-about Netflix original, but the viewers who love it, really love it — making this one perfect niche fare for the online streaming service. All 12 Season 2 episodes go online July 17.

HELL ON WHEELS(Season 4)

The western is one of the great American genres, so perhaps it’s fitting that Season 6 of this AMC epic goes online July 4. The days when western TV series like Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and The Rifleman were common on the airwaves — well, that era is long gone. Hell on Wheels will likely be the last western on TV for a long time, so catch all 13 episodes of Season 4 on Netflix before the fifth and final season premieres on AMC July 18. The first three seasons remain available to stream on Netflix as well.

WHITE COLLAR(Season 6)

Also on July 4, Netflix debuts the final season of a show about another great American tradition — corporate corruption. The hit USA Network cable drama White Collar followed the adventures of an FBI agent and his chief informant, a sociopathic con artist, as they infiltrated the boardrooms in pursuit of white collar criminals.

The sixth and final season of White Collar wrapped up last December, and as of July 4, the entire series is ready for a binge-watch on Netflix.

THE KILLER SPEAKS (Season 2)

True crime fans who can’t get enough of documentary series like Cold Case and The First 48 will need an even stronger set of nerves to delve into this A&E show in which many of the most horrifying, often famous murder cases are retold — through exclusive interviews with the chilling psychopaths who carried out the crimes.

In most cases, the killers give in-depth interviews about their crimes for the first time, often from their cells on death row. Season 2 of The Killer Speaks gets its Netflix release on July 14.
