Mariah Carey Widely Accused Of Staging Publicity Stunt With James Packer Romance

Mariah Carey has a new billionaire boyfriend, James Packer.

He has a lot of money and she is in love. They are even getting married. Does it sound contrived? Could this be a staged publicity stunt just like her romance with Brett Ratner? Many seem to think so. The Daily Telegraph is one of the newspapers leading the charge.

“Packer, who is notoriously private, is usually pictured scowling and ducking out of the glare of a paparazzi lens. Yet this week we saw him happily walking hand-in-hand with his new leading lady, gazing lovingly into her eyes. The love birds were conveniently captured in a series of carefully-crafted poses. He appeared solicitous and gentlemanly. She was fully made-up and wearing a flattering sundress.”

The Daily Telegraph goes on to note that Mariah’s recent feud with Eminem could have been staged to help her Las Vegas ticket sales, although she may not need much help with that. Mariah Carey was widely accused of staging a fake wedding with Nick Cannon after her E=MC2 album took a nosedive on the music charts in 2008. That publicity stunt (if it was one) didn’t seem to help as Mariah Carey released the song “Bye Bye,” which featured her supposed new “love” Nick Cannon in the video — the song barely made the top 20.

However, those who accused Mariah Carey of staging a publicity stunt with Nick Cannon might have been surprised that the relationship actually lasted past the promotional push of E=MC2 and several more years. In 2009, Mariah released the song “Obsessed,” which was allegedly about Eminem. Several thought that the Eminem feud was a huge publicity stunt in order to promote both their albums.

Twitter has been filled with people claiming Mariah Carey is staging yet another publicity stunt to keep her name in the papers.

Even though Mariah Carey’s Las Vegas shows are far from being poorly sold, there appear to be a decent amount of tickets for each date in July. Mariah Carey started her residency in May to mixed, but mostly positive reviews. The New York Times thought the show was a train wreck, but other sources said it was a return to form. Carey’s fans have loved the show and have been spreading videos all over Twitter, even though they aren’t supposed to film at the show.

Perhaps a fake relationship could help the Las Vegas shows sell out. However, are people really reaching with all the “publicity stunt” accusations? Do you think Mariah Carey is truly in love? Let us know in the comments section.
