Dallas Cowboys Rumors: Team May Cut Darren McFadden For Free Agent Veteran Running Back

The Dallas Cowboys have had an offseason that hasn’t necessarily been uneventful, but there have been more rumors than happenings. Now, the latest question going around is whether or not the Cowboys should get rid of Darren McFadden already and go after another veteran free agent running back.

As contract talks with wide receiver Dez Bryant are advancing, the more pressing issue may be the offensive backfield.

The Latin Post thinks that Joseph Randle has much more potential at 23-years of age than the injury-prone McFadden. Randle has incredible speed and is learning the game a lot at a time, but DeMarco Murray’s talent kept him from getting too many chances last season.

Now, Darren McFadden could very well be a worthy asset to any team, but he just can’t stay healthy. He has been in the NFL for seven years (all with the Oakland Raiders), but only once played all 16 games in a season.

The options are out there and the Cowboys do have a number of choices they could pick through. Many of them are hoping a team, any team, will reach out to them and bring them in for training camp.

If not training camp, they are going to be ready by the start of regular season as injuries are likely to happen during preseason.

A few of the names that the Cowboys could look at over McFadden are:

• Knowshon Moreno
• Pierre Thomas
• Chris Johnson
• Steven Jackson

The good thing about all this is that cutting McFadden wouldn’t really hurt the Cowboys either so it remains an option. Only $200,000 of his contract is guaranteed, and his release would free up the money to sign another back.

At this point, it may not take a lot of money for the Cowboys to sign any of those running backs as they simply want to play.

Joseph Randle is not a lost cause at all, and it is believed by many that he could very well be a full-time starter in this league. Right now, the Cowboys simply need some true and reliable veteran running back leadership to help get him there.

It actually seems as if the starting job is Randle’s to lose, but it would be great to have someone such as Johnson or probably Moreno to help him out. Darren McFadden is not looking like the answer to the running back woes of the Dallas Cowboy,s and rumors may have him out sooner rather than later.
