Jared Leto’s Gifts To Co-Stars As Strange As His Character

Jared Leto has proven in the past that he is more than willing to fully embody the roles he chooses, but is it possible that Leto went a little too far this time?

Jared Leto is set to star in the upcoming movie Suicide Squad, where he will play the dark and unstable character of the Joker. Leto, who was unable to be on set with his co-stars at the beginning of filming, wanted his fellow actors to know that he was still putting in the work.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Leto was “inspired by his character” when he decided to gift all of them with a little something special at the beginning of the production.

Margot Robbie, who plays Leto’s character’s love interest, received a love letter and a little something else.

Adam Beach, who plays Slipnot in the upcoming Warner Bros. picture, told E! News, “He sent [Margot Robbie] a nice love letter with a black box with a rat in it—a live rat. It was beautiful. Then he sent bullets to Will [Smith] with a letter.”

While that may be one word to describe Leto’s gift to his on-screen girlfriend, there’s another word that could be used to describe Leto’s other gift: dead.

“The cast also received a video and — get ready for it! — a dead hog.”

Beach spoke of Leto’s gifts saying, “Basically, what he said was, ‘Guys, I can’t be there but I want you to know I’m doing my work as hard as you guys.'”

The video featured Leto in full character and costume as the Joker.

Beach added, “The video he showed is in character. It blew our minds away. Then we realized that day, this is real.”

What else was real? The fear that Leto’s character inspired in the short film.

Beach explained, “He encompasses this beautiful man and he shows it in, ‘Hello, how are you?’ but in an instant, he goes to psychotic behavior where you’re in fear. But you love him because he has both of those genuine sides.”

Well, however many sides Leto might have, one thing is clear: Leto takes method acting to a whole new level.

If you’re ready to catch Jared Leto in all his Joker glory, along with co-stars Cara Delevingne, Jai Courtney, Scott Eastwood, Ben Affleck, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, and Common, Suicide Squad will come to theaters August 5, 2016.
