Watch Canadian Football League Opener Live Online: Montreal Alouettes Vs. Ottawa RedBlacks
Football fans who can’t wait to get started with gridiron action can watch the Canadian Football League opening game live online Thursday night, as 2014 Grey Cup semifinalists Montreal Alouettes host the Ottawa RedBlacks, who will be desperate to improve on their difficult debut season in the CFL.
The Alouettes also hope to get off to a better start to 2015 than they did in the 2014 CFL campaign, when they won just one of their first eight games. But the Alouettes put it all together at the halfway mark, winning eight of their last 10 games to finish second in the East Division on a tiebreaker to the Hamilton Tiger Cats — only to lose in the CFL Playoffs seminfinals to those same Tigercats.
To find out how to watch the Montreal Alouettes vs. Ottawa RedBlacks Canadian Football League opener live online, see the information at the bottom of this article. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, June 25, at Montreal’s Percival Molson Stadium. That’s 4:30 p.m. Pacific Time.
Every game in the Canadian Football League 2015 season — the league’s 58th year, and 62nd overall Canadian pro football season — including the playoffs and the 103rd Grey Cup Final will be available to watch live online via the WatchESPN app.
The Ottawa Redblacks, added as an expansion franchise in 2014 to bring the CFL to nine teams, also got off to a slow start last year. But unlike Montreal, the RedBlacks had a slow finish as well, ending their first season in the league at a frustrating 2-16.
The Redblacks also scored the fewest points of any CFL team with 278 — but oddly enough, Montreal with just 360 points was the second worst offensive team, despite winning seven more games than Ottawa.
Ottawa quarterback Henry Burris — a 40-year-old, 16-year CFL veteran — somehow finished fourth in the league with 3,728 passing yards. But he threw 14 interceptions against only 11 touchdowns as his receivers clearly were stumped when it came to finding ways to get open.
The team’s leading receiver, Marcus Henry — a 2008 sixth round draft pick of the NFL New York Jets caught 67 passes for 824 yards, but saw the end zone only twice.
Meanwhile, Montreal enters the Canadian Football League opener in the midst of a kicker controversy, as Coach Tom Higgins will wait until gametime to decide whether to use rookie Boris Bede or veteran Sean Whyte as his first-string field-goal kicker.
