‘Fallout 4’ Bottle Cap Currency Honored By Bethesda For Pre Order
GatorMacheteJr., an Imgur user, sent Bethesda 2,240 bottle caps with the goal of pre-orderdering the forthcoming Fallout 4. The Fallout 4 bottle cap currency was enough to win over the folks at Bethesda as they have chosen to accept the boxes of bottle caps from him.
EGM reported that Seth, known on Imgur as GatorMacheteJr, sent Bethesda a total of 2,240 bottle caps as a from of payment in exchange for a copy of Fallout 4 when it launches later this year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The Fallout games take place in the not so distant future where nuclear warfare has decimated the planet and humanity now lives in the wastelands or underground bunkers known as “Vaults.” Currency is no longer dollars and cents but in bottle caps.
On his Imgur page he wrote, “Fallout 3 was my favorite game for several years, so I made the rational choice to start saving up bottle caps. Turns out 4.5 years of undergrad and 3 years in a Master’s program leads to a lot of drinking. It ended up being 11.2 pounds of bottle caps. You don’t want to know how much it cost to ship it to Maryland.”
While Fallout 4 bottle caps may not be accepted in your local store as acceptable legal tender, Bethesda has concluded that hoarding bottle caps for that long deserves some recognition. Bethesda’s global community lead Matt Grandstaff got in touch with Seth to let him know his 2,240 bottle caps were accepted by the team and he had indeed secured a copy of the game. He also thanked him for making his office smell like beer.

According to Seth, the email from Grandstaff, “He told me since I was the first person to do this, I would be receiving a copy of the game this November, and that he would be running my caps over to deposit them at the People’s Bank of Point Lookout.”
Grand staff went on to say that since he was the first person to do this, he would be the only one whose caps would be accepted by Bethesda for a copy of Fallout 4. Therefore if you have a sudden urge to rummage in your recycle bins you can leave them where they are. Normal legal tender of your country will be needed to net your own copy. Fallout 4 was originally announced at E3 and launches November 10, 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
