Britney McCoy: Little Girls Make Daring Escape From Mom’s House Of Horrors — Neglect Charges Filed
Britney McCoy is a young mom who, on Tuesday, was hit with child neglect charges from an incident in November that led police in Winchester, Indiana, to a home where McCoy was staying with her two little daughters — ages 5 and 7 — in conditions that would be considered unfit for a dog.
The whole sickening situation came to light last November 23, a chilly, windy day in eastern Indiana, when Winchester police officers spotted the two little girls wandering around outdoors — not only unaccompanied by an adult, but without shoes or jackets to fend off the cold. Not only that, but the two little girls looked like no one had ever taught them how to safely cross a street.
The officers described the girls as “careless” as they ran out into traffic.
But when the cops stopped the girls to ask them what was going on, that’s when they got a clearer picture of how bad their situation really was.
The little girls pleaded desperately with the officers not to make them go back to their home — though “home” may not be an accurate description of the place. The girls told the cops that they were frightened of the dog that lived with them, and that their mother screamed at them so often and so loudly that their ears ached.
They begged the officers to bring them to their grandparents’ home instead.
When police investigated the house in Winchester, what they found shocked them — and left them disgusted.
They found Britney McCoy asleep just about two feet away from a second floor window — the same window from which the girls snuck out, risking everything by climbing on to a second story metal roof where police said they were in severe danger of a disastrous fall.
But the risk was worth it to them. Why? In addition to the dog and the screaming mom, the house had other adults living there, one of whom was a convicted child molester.
All of the food in the house was caked in mold, and the only bathroom had a broken toilet that was overflowing with human excrement. There were also piles of feces — whether human or from the dog was unclear — on the floor.
In fact, the two girls slept on the same inflatable air mattress, just inches away from a smear of feces that was ground into the carpet, as if it had been stepped on repeatedly. Trash, filthy clothes, and dirty dishes littered the place — and the both of the little girls were infested with head lice.
A neighbor told WXIN TV news that the smell wafting out of the windows of the house was “disgusting, just disgusting.”
The first time officers went to the home, no one answered the door despite the cops’ loud, repeated knocking. When they returned, they found Britney McCoy asleep. They woke her, only to have her complain that her daughters should have awakened her rather than slipping out.
The revelations about the sickening case come just two weeks after a mom of 12 in Oklahoma was was arrested and charged with keeping her youngest kids in a feces-filled home with no running water, electricity, or food.
The two Indiana girls were placed with their grandparents. Britney McCoy was finally charged in court just this Tuesday, June 23, with two counts of neglecting her children. She could face 2-and-a-half years in prison.
