‘General Hospital’ Star Anthony Geary Bids Farewell To Luke Spencer, Port Charles
After months of speculation and preparation, Anthony Geary has said goodbye to the character of Luke Spencer and the show, General Hospital. Though Geary will still be seen in Port Charles on-screen for a bit yet, the actor has wrapped up filming and it seems that things got a bit emotional.
Entertainment Weekly shares the scoop from Anthony Geary’s last day of filming. General Hospital spoilers have already detailed that Laura’s return is key to Luke’s departure, and that Holly, Lucky, and Ethan will all be a part of the farewell storyline, as well. In addition to those key cast members, it seems that Finola Hughes, Leslie Charleson, Lynn Herring, Kin Shriner, Ian Buchanan, and Kristina Wagner were all there to see Tony wrap things up.
According to Soap Opera Digest, Geary was teary-eyed as he said goodbye, though apparently he left the door open regarding a return just a bit. He said that if he were to ever return, it would be for the people. Many of those who weren’t there in person took to social media to praise the actor and share their love, including Tristan Rogers and Greg Vaughan.
This was one monumental wrap party, as 200 cast and crew members joined Geary after he filmed his last scenes. There was a big video montage that included some of Luke’s biggest scenes, as well as goodbye messages from both GH stars and others in the industry who love the actor’s work.
While Geary has taken breaks from the character of Luke Spencer before, even for months at a time, he has indicated that this time it’s intended to be a permanent departure. Those with the show have said the door will always be open for a return, and even Geary seems to admit that it’s hard not to consider a possible reappearance down the road. Tony first appeared in the role of Luke Spencer in 1978, and people still talk about the infamous 1981 Luke and Laura wedding.
After winning eight Emmy Awards for the role, Geary says he’s looking forward to reinventing himself and tackling Act 3 of his life. He thinks the show has done a great job of wrapping up the story of Luke, and it has been shared that his last episode will air sometime in July.
Just how will Luke Spencer leave Port Charles? Fans will have to stay tuned for specific General Hospital spoilers on that front, but it is known that there will be touching moments ahead for Luke, and all of the core show characters. Many are said to see Anthony Geary go and can’t wait to see just how it all comes together this summer on General Hospital.
