Patrick Schwarzenegger Romances Bella Thorne In ‘Midnight Sun,’ Might Become The Next Ansel Elgort
Patrick Schwarzenegger is moving on from Miley Cyrus by sweeping another former Disney star off her feet. However, he and 17-year-old Shake It Up star Bella Thorne are only pretending to be lovers in an upcoming movie about love-stricken teens whose relationship faces a rather daunting challenge.
According to Deadline, 21-year-old Patrick Schwarzenegger recently landed his first lead role in the movie Midnight Sun, and this part hints that his budding acting career will likely take a much different direction than that of his famous father. Arnold Schwarzenegger became an action movie god by starring in movies like The Terminator, Conan the Barbarian, and Predator. His movies were obviously targeted toward a male audience, but Patrick is taking a more romantic route by starring in the type of film that’s aimed at teen girls who just get can’t get enough tragic love stories.
Patrick’s mother, Maria Shriver, is thrilled that her son is working hard and following in his father’s footsteps by pursuing an acting career.

In Midnight Sun, Patrick plays a boy who falls in love with a 17-year-old girl (Bella Thorne) whose date options are very limited — she can’t play mini golf or go to the beach because she suffers from a rare disease that makes exposure to sunlight deadly. But alas, “fate intervenes when she meets Charlie (Schwarzenegger),” and the love-struck, angst-ridden teens “embark on a summer romance.” Midnight Sun is based on a 2006 Japanese film.
Patrick Schwarzenegger’s movie could prove to be a big hit if it appeals to the same crowd that enjoyed The Fault In Our Stars — it was another movie about a girl with a deadly disease who fell in love, and it helped make Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort the next Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. According to the Daily Mail, “sick-lit,” books about dying teens have become all the rage, and the trend is bleeding over into the movie industry (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is another example). Bella Thorne and Patrick Schwarzenegger can only hope that they didn’t jump on the trend too late.
Patrick also got in on the zombie trend by getting cast in Scouts vs. Zombies. According to UPROXX, this wacky-sounding movie is about boy scouts facing off against the undead, and Patrick will be playing “popular high school quarterback who is a rival to the boy scout troop.” In other words, his character is a bully who will most likely become zombie brunch.
Patrick’s previous roles include small parts in Grown Ups 2 and The Benchwarmers. However, he is probably more famous for being the guy that Miley Cyrus dated before (allegedly) moving on to Victoria’s Secret model Stella Maxwell.
