‘Forza 6’ Gets Sweet Looking Xbox One Console For 10th Anniversary

It’s hard to believe that the Forza Motorsport franchise is celebrating its tenth anniversary, but that’s what’s happening. Microsoft announced a racing-themed limited edition console for Forza Motorsport 6 on Tuesday and it comes in the new 1TB form.

The first Forza Motorsport launched on the original Xbox back on May 3, 2005. The game was hailed at the time for its physic engine, which was advanced for consoles, damage model, and online play. These have been the pillars that the sequels have been built through three releases on the Xbox 360 and now the second on the Xbox One.

That sounds like a pretty good excuse for a limited edition console and it did to Microsoft and the team at Xbox as well. The console not only sports a custom paint job, it also comes with new sound effects for turning the console on and off, plus when the disk eject button is pressed.

“Featuring a racing-inspired design with iconic sports car styling and custom automotive sound effects, the Forza Motorsport 6 Limited Edition Console is the first custom console from Xbox with a racing theme,” the company announced. “The bundle includes a 1TB hard drive, matching wireless controller with rubberized diamond grips, and a digital copy of Forza Motorsport 6 – the most beautiful and comprehensive racing game of this generation – all for $399 in the U.S.”

Forza 6 was given a September 15 release date for North America and will launch over the following couple of days in Japan and Europe. The blue-themed console matches the Ford GT supercar that is on the cover of the game down to the power button using the same “Start/Stop” button as the supercar. The controller will also be sold separately.

The game will be a big upgrade over its predecessor as Forza Motorsport 5 was light on content in the rush to get it out in time for the Xbox One launch. Forza 6 will come with more than 450 cars out of the box with working cockpits. That number will likely exceed 500 by the time all the DLC releases.

Additionally, there will be 26 “famous locations” to race in, including Rio de Janeiro and Daytona. The Forza series is known for mixing in real-world tracks with fictional tracks. You should expect many of the 17 tracks from Forza Motorsport 5 to return, though, such as Road Atlanta, Sebring, Nurburgring, and Laguna Seca.

The game has been confirmed to run at 1080p and 60 frames per second (fps). Many other features are returning as well, such as tuning, upgrading, and painting cars, as well as 24-player online racing and Drivatars, the cloud-based driver AI that models itself after the driving habits of the people on your friends list.

New features are being introduced with Forza 6 such as night racing, dynamic weather, and puddles that can cause cars to hydroplane.
