‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Creator Kurt Sutter To Unveil ‘The Bastard Executioner’ At Comic-Con 2015

Kurt Sutter has been plenty busy with his latest project, The Bastard Executioner. With filming already complete for the pilot episode of the medieval drama, Sutter is getting ready to give fans a first look at the period drama during the upcoming Comic-Con event.

According to Spinoff, the Sons of Anarchy mastermind will be unveiling his new work as part of FX’s larger presentation in Hall H. Sutter will be presenting alongside Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain and Dennis Leary’s upcoming project, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, and will offer fans a new glimpse into the world of his latest project.

The Bastard Executioner is Sutter’s most recent project since the end of the hit biker drama Sons of Anarchy, which was also part of the FX lineup. The new series stars Lee Jones as a knight under the charge of King Edward. The warrior knight attempts to leave behind his life of violence for a more peaceful existence as a farmer. However, circumstances force him to return to his old life as he becomes the executioner.

FX has already ordered a ten-episode first season for Sutter’s newest series, with hopes that the show will continue well beyond that. Along with Jones, the show stars Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy), Flora Spencer-Longhurst (Leonardo), Sam Spruell (The Last Ship), and Kurt Sutter, who will be playing the role of a mute in the new drama.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sutter talked about The Bastard Executioner and how his love for history influenced his creative process.

“I love history. I love theology. I love blood… It’s been very satisfying weaving fact and fiction to create a new mythology that combines all these elements. And with this extraordinary cast — Stephen Moyer, Katey Sagal, and newcomer, Lee Jones — this world explodes on screen.”

The Bastard Executioner is being produced by Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo, and Paris Barclay. Along with his producing duties, Barclay directed the first episode of Season 1.

Although filming for the pilot episode already concluded a month back, production for the remainder of Season 1 will start up again later this summer. The primary filming for The Bastard Executioneris taking place in the countryside of Wales. While a premiere date has yet to be set, The Bastard Executioner is expected to air sometime this fall on FX.
