Henry Cavill As James Bond? Rumors Increase As Daniel Craig’s Departure Nears
Henry Cavill as James Bond is not as far fetched as some may think.
Rumors that the handsome Brit is in the run for the coveted role increase as Daniel Craig’s departure nears, are getting fans super excited.
We have known Craig as James Bond — the spy with a license to kill — for quite a while now and he has left his mark rejuvenating a franchise that was in need of new blood. With Craig as 007, the latest Bond films have seen great success at the box office, with director Steven Spielberg dubbing him “the perfect 21st-century Bond” despite initial controversy on his casting.
In general, actors that have been chosen to play James Bond are relatively unknown and the role helps to propel their career, such as in the case of Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, and Roger Moore. If Henry Cavill was chosen to play James Bond, it would be somewhat unprecedented as he also portrays another very high profile role, Superman.
But is not as crazy as you may think. After all, Henry said he had auditioned for the role along with Craig, back in 2005, but the studio thought he was too young at the time. Now, 10-years later he is the perfect age and certainly has the look needed. Tall, dark, incredibly fit, and extremely good looking, Cavill could fill in Craig’s shoes nicely.
“I obviously wasn’t right for Bond,” a disappointed Cavill admitted, despite Casino Royale director, Martin Campbell pushing to cast him. “I did (audition), and I wasn’t right. That’s all.”
Henry Cavill has legions of fans who are part of his “Cavillry” which has expanded tenfold since the release of Man of Steel, when he portrayed Superman, one of the quintessential superheroes. Now we are set to watch him as a suave, Bond-like spy in the revival The Man From U.N.C.L.E., alongside Armie Hammer. The film is directed by Guy Ritchie and is a reboot of the 1960s TV series of the same name.
With a lot more cinematic experience and his work ethics, which are admired by peers and directors, Henry Cavill can’t be discounted as a very strong candidate to play James Bond after Daniel Craig departs. The rumors are increasing in the fandom, especially after Cavill unexpectedly and suddenly departed from Stratton, a project he was directly involved with as a producer. We still don’t know the exact reasons for the exit.
Could Henry Cavill be cast as James Bond despite having a commitment to play Superman for the foreseeable future?
