WWE News: WWE Superstar Given ‘CM Punk Gimmick’ To Work With?
Look into his eyes, what do you see? It is certainly not a cult of personality or even former WWE star CM Punk. It is Brad Maddox, a man who once had a program or two with CM Punk on WWE RAW as well as PPVs as both a referee and General Manager. Most of us have been waiting to see what Maddox will do in his comeback. He has been gone for a long time and has only worked live events here and there. No one is really sure what went on with the guy, but there are various rumors of injury or lack of need.
Regardless, it seems that young Brad Maddox is channeling his inner CM Punk lately. At a live event on Saturday night in Las Vegas, Maddox came out for a promo dressed as CM Punk before he lost to Jack Swagger. He also had an MMA style offense, which is not something Maddox normally did before this.

Brad Maddox has been pretty much a no-show, so he needed to make an impact upon his return. However, looking like CM Punk is surely not going to work out well for the guy. Fans will hate him for emulating one of their favorite stars who left them over a year ago. If he is going for the heel reaction, it makes sense. Yet it wouldn’t be smart of WWE to have him use a “CM Punk gimmick.”
We’re just now getting CM Punk chants to stop, which is awesome to see. There are still a few marks in the audience that chant his name here and there. For the most part, however, things have died down well. To bring up yet another reason for them to chant is stupid. The look is great, it always was for Punk. Unless WWE plans on bringing CM Punk back for a mini-rivalry or run-in for Maddox, there is no reason for it.
Let us be honest here: WWE can’t force this to happen now more than ever as CM Punk is under a UFC contract. That means there is no reason to get excited about a comeback at all. On top of all of this, CM Punk owns his name and gimmick of sorts. So it would be gimmick infringement if Brad Maddox continued it past a live event here and there. If he was similar to Damien Sandow in that he was mimicking various stars, it would make sense.
At the end of the day, this would be a bad idea as we just got done with this storyline in WWE.
Fans are interested to see if WWE brings Brad Maddox back soon to TV and if he will bring this CM Punk look with him. It is uncertain if this is a one-time thing or not; however, if he continues to do it at live events it is pretty obvious that it is a new direction for Maddox.
