‘A Deadly Adoption’: True Story Inspired Lifetime Movie Was A Twist On 2007’s ‘The Last Trimester’
Last night’s premiere of A Deadly Adoption had everyone talking. A Deadly Adoption, also referred to as Deadly Adoption, was an original Lifetime movie that was inspired by a true story. For the last several weeks leading up to the movie, many Lifetime viewers couldn’t believe that comedians Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig would be appearing in the movie. There was all sorts of speculation about whether this was a Lifetime television prank or whether it was some sort of a spoof. Lifetime fans flooded social media pages with questions like: “Is this for real” and “What the hell is Will Ferrell doing in a Lifetime movie?”
“whaaaat? Is Will Ferrell in a Lifetime movie?”
“[Will] Trying his hand at some lifetime drama. This will be interesting.”
“I still don’t get why Ferrell and Wiig are in this movie’.”
“I’m sorry but it’s strange with Will Ferrell and Kristin Wiig playing serious roles. Was waiting for the punchline the whole time..”
Whatever your thoughts were about the trailer when it was released on April 1, A Deadly Adoption was real, and Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig did play serious roles. And judging by people’s reactions to the awesome Lifetime movie, it went over well with most, while still leaving the majority in shock that these two funny people could pull of such a serious role. Even the cheesy dance scene at the end was most entertaining.
According to The Internet Movie Database (IMDB), A Deadly Adoption was inspired by the 2007 Lifetime movie The Last Trimester, which centered around a couple who allowed a pregnant woman to move into their home during the last stages of her pregnancy. With intentions to adopt her child, the couple found themselves accused of her murder. The Movies Based On True Stories Archives speculates that producers wove together two different true stories as the basis for A Deadly Adoption: one that included a pregnant woman who was arrested for wearing a prosthetic stomach while defrauding an innocent couple who wanted to adopt her child. The other angle most likely included a true story about a husband who strangled his pregnant wife when he learned that she planned to give the baby up for adoption.
Lifetime has done a series of movies that were based on or inspired by true stories over the years related to the theme of adoption, such as Adopting Terror, a 2012 TV movie about a couple who adopted a child, but whose biological father returned to demand the baby back, and Baby For Sale, a 2004 true story based on a couple who went undercover to help expose a baby selling scheme to unsuspecting couples who had hopes for adopting a child.
